April 2t, 1925 At a sDeoi~l~meeting of the City Oouncil held ~April 21st there were present: ~essrs-- Vernon Brooks, J. Alden Oas%, J. C. Smith, j. R. Stewart, R.E.Bo Stcw~rt, L. Go Whl~e, Also the Oity Manager. The following directions were read for the special meeting: Mr. Lo O. Brinson, Oity Olerk& Auditor, Portsmouth, V~ "Portsmouth, Va., Ap~i! 20th, 1925. Dear Sir:-- You will please call a special meeting of the Oity 0ouncil in the Oouncil Ohamber Tuesday, April 21st, mt 8 o'clock P. M., tc cormider the LiCense Tax Ordinance for the Tear Beginning~M~y 1st, 1925. The~amendment was adopted. ~ ~u.-:.~Nm....Bzo~ks mn~ed that the 9th paragraph of Section ~64 be amended to read as follows: ~Carniv~ls, festivals, bazaars, or similsm shows of wl~tever nature, $76~00 Der week or p~t of m week. This license to be issued only to such shows as comply with the- State Law ~n every p~icular and issued with the approval of the City Nauager, and shall apply to all shows under any auspices whether for charity or personal profit. This sh~ll not apply to local s~ateur talent assembled or augmented by other ammteur talent, giving~m show or entertainment for charitable purposes.~ The amendment was adopted. Then M~v. St~ws~rt (R.E.B.) moved that the ordin~uce be adopted, ~s amended, ~ same was adopted as amended, ~nd by the following vote: Ayes-- Brooks, Oast, Smith~ Stewart (J.R.), Stewart (R.E.B.), White, 6.
