<br />City for w~ter furnished the Norfolk County Jail until such time as the contract with the

<br /> To report as early as possible. Communication from the Manager, forwarding a letter
<br />from the Olerk of No~fotk County. relative to payment of interest by the City on funds
<br />vanced by the County for the construction of the George Washington Highway.

<br /> Recommendation of the Manager that he be authorized to pay the Norfolk Iron & Wire Works
<br />$50.00 from the appropriation for the 9th Wa~d Community Hall and Fire Station, for steel
<br />ordered by Mr. Wickham C. -Taylor, Architect for the building, from said firm, thinking that
<br />the contract, would be awarded either to the low bidder or the next low bidder a~d ~lnding
<br />~hat ~th these bidders had a contract with the Norfolk Iron & Wire Works; i~ter,'on'account
<br />of the lowest bid exeeedi~g the amomnt of money availab&e, mew bids were asked for a bmiiding
<br />womewhat'reduced in size and modified as to details, and award made to R. E. Revell, the low
<br />bidder.

<br />imbursement to E. U. Harrell for a s~It of clothes and ~oetor,s a~d drug bills, on account
<br />of his son being iz~ured by stumbling over the remains of an~old hitching post which protruded
<br />above the surface of the sidewalk approximately 2 inshes at the northeast corner of Green
<br />and High ets.
<br /> It is recommended that this be referred tc the Acting Oity Manager for further in-
<br />vestigation and report.

<br /> Recommendation of the Manager that Glasgow St. between Court and Washington, be co~ered
<br />with sheet asphalt, and that Randolph St. between the creek and Third St., be paved with
<br />bituminous macasa~, the roadways on e&chmstreet being narrowed tc 18 ft., as there will be
<br />a balance apparently in the bend issue provided for the paving of High St. and Elm Ave.; the
<br />estimated cost of the GlaSgow St. workbeing $1,500.00 and of the Randolph St. WOrk $5,000.00.

<br />$10~.3%, erroneously paid in taxes on property in South Portsmouth, for Years 1913, 1914,
<br />1915, 1916 and 191~, same having been purchased from OctaVia Oavendy by Mattie ~ Alexander,
<br />who was the w~fe of Harry L. Alexander.

<br /> It i.s recommended that the term of the City Mana/~er be sub, eot'to the ~leasure of
<br />the Council, and it is further recommended that during the pleasure of the Council the City
<br />Manager ~11 perform the duties of the Olty Collector and for snch duties as City G~tleeter
<br />he sh~ll continue under bond for $60,000.00.
