Naupin, Jr., Art!~?r Mayo, <br /> J. Alden Cast, J. R. Stewart, L. G. Tnmte, 6. <br /> Also the City ~&~nager. <br /> <br />The following directions were read for the <br /> <br />Mr. L. 0. Brin~on, <br />City Clerk &. Auditor, <br />Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br />special meeting: <br /> <br /> "Portsmouth, <br /> <br />November 24th, 1926. <br /> <br />Dear Sir:-- <br /> <br />26th, <br /> <br /> You will please call a speci~ meeting of the 0ity Council for <br />at 8 o'clock p.m., to consider the N~ohinery Tax. <br /> <br />Friday, November <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />Verhon Brooks, President.~ <br /> <br /> After some discussion of the Machinery Tax, Mr. ~hite moved that our City Attorney be <br />instructed to confer with the City Attorney~o£ Norfolk and see if they can not arrive at some <br />uniform classification of m~chinery for Norfolk and Portsmouth, and that our City Attorney <br />report back to the Council for its consideration and action. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Then Mr. Cast.moved that in event the 0ouncil orders any refunds to be <br />tax then the same will be m~de without effort on the part of the ta~oayer. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />m~de on machinery <br /> <br /> By u~a~imous consent, the City ~?nager was granted permission~ to bring -ap the matter of <br />coIlection of taxes on property on whmch the Local Board of Equ~lizmtion has changed the as- <br />sessment. <br /> On motion, the following resolution was ~dopted, and the City Manager w~s inst~ac%ed to <br />notify the City Oo£1ector of the s~me: "R~solved, That the owners of property on which the <br />Local Board of Equalization has'changed the assessment will be allowed to make payment on said <br />property during the month of December without penalty; that the owners of property who have <br />paid their %axes and the same bas been reduced by the Board of Equalization will receive a re- <br />fund; ~nd all owners of property whose assessment has been increased by the Board of Equaliza- <br />tion will be billed for the said increase." <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
