<br /> The minutes of the regular meeting-September 2?th and special meeting September 30th were
<br />read and were approved. ~'

<br /> The following communications were read from the City Nanager:

<br />the resignation of Niss Elizabeth 0atom as ~urse in the Department of Public Welfare, effective
<br />September 23rd, 1927, and the appointment of Miss Na~jorie Eagleton, vice Miss 0eton, resigned,
<br />at a salar~ of $1500.00 per year, effective October'lst, 1927.e
<br /> On motion, the notice was ordered~2o be filed.
<br /> 2nd.- "! beg to annommce the appointment of W. G. Hartung as hoseman, grade A, in the Fire
<br />Department, at a salary of $~.95 per day, effective this date, vice W. L. Creekmore, resigned.

<br /> Mr. Ha~t~u~g has previously served a number of years in the Fire Department as hoeeman,
<br />engineer, and captain of an engine company."

<br /> On motion,- the~ commamioation~was ordered to be filed.

<br /> 3rd.. "! recommend that an appropriation of $150.00 ~e made ~ailable for temporary assis-
<br /> tance in the Oity Collector's Office at this time, to take csare cT the excess amount of work
<br /> during the rush season.
<br />
<br /> ~ During the month of November,~ i~ will be ne~esss~ry for the present force to wait
<br /> on,th~ customers at the counter, which leave~ none te post the, ledgers ~nd tax t~ckets. In
<br /> making out the tho~ds~fstat~me~ a~d ~he ~ax books., besides~ndlxng ~ra~e, the work
<br /> at this season of~e ye~r is~partic~marmy heavy. Last year th~s ~unt was omitted from the
<br /> budget and I would ~tike to ~4ave authority to furnish the necessary assistance."

<br /> On motion of N~. W~%te, ~he recommendation was co~eurred in~ and a~special appropriation

<br /> 6th. "At the meeting off Z~e Council on Sept. 2?th, permission was granted the 0ity Manager
<br />to ~ake up with the authorities of Norfolk OOunty the advisability of the Oity and 0ounty
<br />Jointly installing a modern heating system-i~ t~? Court House ~uildlng2 and if agreeable to
<br />ask fo~ bids and then submitthe entire pr~positmon to you for ~pprova±.

<br /> I have appea~red ~efore the Board of Supervisors of Norfolk County in reference to
<br />the matter and they ur~animously voted that the heating plant be installed in the court house
<br />building to heat the entire b~ilding, including the two cou~t and jury rooms, sheriff's office
<br />and the two county and two city offices. I asked for bids on same, so I could properly place
<br />the proposition before the Board of Supervisors. Attached yen will find five bids, and speci-
<br />fications prepared by the Building Inspector. The total cost of this installation will be~
<br />$2625.00, $215~.00 for heat~r~gplant and $$80.00 for flue and carpenter's work. The Board of
<br />Supervisors, at its meeting today agreed to appropriate $1312.00, their share of this amount,
<br />with the uuderstauding that it is to be operated jointly. As stated in my previous communi-
<br />cation to you, from a ~standpoint of safety and comfort to the oc?u~.am~s cf ~his ~bui~di~n$ and
<br />T~he citize~s at la, ge, I recommend that the~ity Oouuoli appropriate the sum of $1312.00 or
<br />authorize me to proceed with the work at once in view of the approaching winter season. ! might
<br />add that there will be a saving in the cost of fuel in the operation of the proposed heating
<br />plant."
