License Tax Ordinance for 1929. <br /> <br /> An ordinance Imposing a License Tax for the City of Portsm, uth, <br />Beginning May l, 1929. <br /> <br />Virginia, for the <br /> <br />On mo~ion of Mr, Mayo, the ordinance was placed on first reading. <br /> <br />3rd. Budget Ordinance for 1929. <br /> <br /> A~Ordinance 8f~the Budget Appropriations for the Oity of Portsm~mth, Virginia, for the <br />Yea~ 1929. <br /> <br /> On motion of M~r. Ma~p~n~ theordin~nce was~placed on first reading. <br /> <br />In connection with the budget, the following telegram was read: <br /> <br />The Honorable C~ncil, <br />City of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, Vi~. <br /> <br />"Norfolk, Virginia, Dec. 18th, 7 P- m. <br /> <br /> We earnestly hope in your consideration of the question cf Portsmouths Oontinued financial <br />support qf No~folk Portsmouth Freight Traffic Commission you will not only recognize this or- <br />ganization as deserving of your support but will feel as we do that it would be great misfor- <br />tune if City were deprived of its constructive effort to preserve our existing advantages <br />and prevent further adverse adjustments. We can not too highly commend the 'service this com- <br />mission has rendered our Company during the five years of its existence. <br /> <br />Southgate Terminal 0orporation, <br />Portsmouth Division." <br /> <br />On motion, the telegram was received and filed. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Mayo, the privilege of the floor was extended to any one present interested <br />in the Budget. <br /> <br /> ~r. Norman Cassell spoke and asked about the building of the bridge between West Park View <br />and Bhea's Farm, as provided for in the Order of Annexation. <br /> <br />Mr. James A. Kemp Plu,mm~r, mercer o~ the N~rfolk-Portsmouth Freight Traffic Commission from Ports-~ <br />mouth, presented ~r.~ F~eeman, Mr. 0harles Syer, Mr. Gaston ~oote, Mr. W. H. Peters, a~d Mr. <br />Wagner, who spoke urging Council to continue its support for the Norfolk-Portsmouth Freight <br />Traffic Commission. <br /> <br />0n motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
