<br />Dear Sirs:-- Herewith is submitted a report of the operation of the Ferries for the Month of
<br />Augest, 1929, which includes the tot~! data for the months of Juue, July and August.
<br />Traffic The tabulation attached hereto shows the passenger and vehicular revenues for the
<br />monthsof Jut, e, july ~nd August.1929®
<br /> An analysis of-the figures shows mhat the business for the year has increased
<br />slightlY. The total business to date is only $5,691-O9 less thau last-year in spite of the
<br />unusually bad business during the winter months this year. It will be noted that the vehicular
<br />traffic for the month of August was granted than A~gust a year ago. It will also be noted
<br />that the vehicular traffic during the summer months was practically as good as a year ago, even
<br />with the bridge competition.
<br />Ferry Service It h~s been considered necessary to give the best-o~.serv'ice durirE the rush
<br />season in or'er to retain the business. During the summer months the boats were operated, on
<br />a 20iminute schedule, ms~king a boat leave every five minutes. This' was found~uecess~rY ~n
<br /> . . . the traffic ~nd also to inc.rease the frequency of service. ~ch operatiOn

<br /> The portion of the Gommercial Place Stores occupied by W. N. Bougades was closed
<br /> on the 1st of September, due to his arrears in rent of $1,000.00, and the fixtures in the
<br /> tire stores was sold on the lbth, bringing $1,080.O0. The store vacated was rented to the
<br /> highest bidder at $126.00 per month. All of the fixtures in the O6mmercial Place Stores ~r~e
<br /> now the property of the Norfolk Oounty Ferries.
