Craig, against Dog Tax Fund, to amount <br />for v~lue of three chickens killed by mdog. <br /> On motion of Mr. Brooks, the bill was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br />of <br /> <br /> A 'commUnication was ~e~d from Charles Galumbeck with reference to being charged $5.30 <br />more fortaxes on ~?O4 Highland Ave. dwelling than last year. <br /> On motion of Mr. Brooks, the communication was referred to the Commissiqner of the <br />Revenue for re~ort. <br /> <br /> A bill was received from J. Shirley Hope, State Game Warden, to amount of $9?.50, for <br />services in destroying 39 tagless does $ $2.50 each. <br /> On motion of ~r~ BrOoks, the T~easurer was ~Athorized to pay said bill, out of funds <br />on han~ from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br /> A petition was read from Benjami~ Xafka, 922 South street, to be relieved from payment <br />of certain taxes erroneously assessed'ag~inst him. <br /> On motion of Mr. Oast, the petition was referred to the City Attorney and City Manager. <br /> <br /> The table Being Olear, the City ~anager~s'letteraccompanied~by~letter;f~o~:the Virg~Dia <br />Electric & Power Company, on the electrification of the Suffolk Wmter Plant, was taken up <br />for-consideration. <br /> Mr. Ogg moved, As we have a definite proposition from the Virginia Electric and Power <br />Oompany as-to the cost of electrification of the Suffolk Water Plant, that the City of <br />Portsmouth offez the Power Company the~following proposition: That of the estimated cost <br />of $52~00,00, $13~800.00 be ~idbYlthe Power Company for outside work, and that the <br />.ba~anoe Of $3~,7GO,00 or a balance not to ~xCeed $~0,000.00 be paid one-half by the City <br />of Portsmouth and the~o~h~$~e~.~y~_~t.~%w~.e~0~pany; work to be done under specifications <br />of the Power Comp~uy~an~I~dH~th~ sd~rS~ohT6'f.theSuperintendent of the Portsmouth <br />Water Dep~tment. If this proposition is acceptable to the Power Co., the Cit~ Attorney ' <br />-is authorized to draw con~ract for the same, said contract to be approved by the Superin- <br />tendent'of the Water Department. <br /> <br /> The motion was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes- ~Brooks, Hutchins, Maupin, Mayo, Oast, Ogg, Stewart, ~. <br /> <br /> The City Manager stated that he had received information through Mr. Preston and Mr. <br />Tran~that if the City would withdraw-its request for an Air Line Highway from Alexander's <br />Oorner to'High.street and Hamilton Avenue, t~e State Highway Commission would award con- <br />tract fore,he widening of the Suffolk ~Boulevard from the City limits at Hamilton Avenue <br />to Alexander's corner. <br /> Mr. Brooks moved that the Council of the City of Portsmouth requ-est the State Highway <br />Commission ~o notify them a reasonable time in advance of a hearing on its petition as <br />outlined in a letter adopted by the Oity Council September 25, 1930, addressed to I.
