Stewart in the ~hair. <br /> <br /> ~nutes of regular meeting held J~iy !4th, were read and ~ ~ <br /> app~ove~. <br /> The followin~ communications from the Gity Man~.ger were read: <br /> <br /> 1st - Annotuucing the appointment o~ the following Substitute Policemen, <br />effective July 21st~ 1931: James A. Ec0oy, Hugh E. Bryant ~illis T. Johnson, Harry S. <br />~e~olds. On motion the same v~s ordered filed. ' ~ <br /> <br /> 2nd - 'I respectfstly report to you the comoletion of the contract with the <br />Virginia Electric & Power Gompany for reoaving work on abandoned Park View car line. The <br />Gity has received final payment from the-Power Go~oany~amounting to $18,!97.92, all bills <br />having been paid.' <br /> On motion, the same was ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 3rd - 'I beg to make the following reoort in oo~uection with the pay of the <br />Equalization Board, w~ich matter was referred to me-at you~ last meeting: <br /> it was my understanding when ~he 8~,500. aooropriation was ms~ie by the <br />0ouncil that this amount would cover the job oomoleted. ~en the Ohairman wee asked the <br />F~ae~tion~I understood hi~ re~ly to be that tY,SQ0, was aufficient to como!ere the <br /> ca memoer of the E~uallzation M~.va ~ ~-' ~^ ' ~ ~ ~ ~ job. <br />~ ~ ~. _ ~ ~ ............. ~ ~uuu. F. ~a~ker be relieved. I find <br />~hat B. F. Pe~vker was assessed in 1930 for taxes on house ~_ N~unt Vernon Avenue <br />omitted ~or the years 1~27, 1928 192~ and 1930 amounting to One Hundred Dollars and <br />S~venty-Six gents ($100.~6). ' ' ' <br /> . This was one of the houses which were reoorted by the ~lerk <br />'tothe assessors as having been omitted and the aesessment was.made by ~he Gommission~r of <br />Revenue on the strength of the list furnished him° I~Zi~d that an error was made in pre- <br />paring the ~ist as the house in question belongs to Louis Richards and was properly as- <br />sessed to him. The lots numbers twenty-eight (28) and twenty-nine (29) in Block ,A~ of <br />B. F. Parker are vacant and the taxes should be relieved.~ <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. Ogg, the Gity Attorney, s recommendation was concurred in. <br /> <br /> The daily repo~t of the Aecos~uting Department for July 2~th was received <br />and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> The following resolution of Ere Brooks laid on table at the last meeting <br />was taken up and read: <br /> <br /> 'That an appropriation of Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ~(825~000~00) or so <br />much of same as may be necessary be made from the ~ater.Fund to build two bridges over <br />Lake Gahoon, and to pay Nansemond 0ounty Seventy five Htusdred Dollazs for upkeep and main- <br />tenance of said bridges, as per agreement dated July 14th, 1931' <br /> On motion of Er. To B~iggs, <br /> <br /> 0omaunication from Superintendent of the School~ annotuucing the death of <br />member of the School Board from Earshall ~ard. <br /> Eotion of Nr. ~ayo that we go into election to fill the vacancy, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Er. kayo nominated U~. T. A. 'Willett. There being no other nom~sations, Er. <br />Willett was elected by the following ~ · <br /> vo~e. <br /> <br />For Er.
