Brooks, ~. R. Hutchins, <br />Archibald Ogg, J. R. Stewart <br />Also the City Manager. <br /> <br />Maupin, J <br /> <br />Arthur Mayo, J. Alden 0&st, <br /> <br /> The following ordinance pending at the regular meeting October 27th at adjournment, <br />was taken up and read: <br /> <br /> ~ , and Fifty <br /> rAn Ordinance ~ho~izi~g the Issuance of Three ~r~.edAThousand Dollars <br /> of' Bones of the Oily o~ Portsmouth, Virginia, for the purpose of installing <br /> sewers and pav~ng streets and public thoroughfares and building a new bridge <br /> connecting streets in said city, making provision for the form of said bonds, <br /> and fo~ the payment thereof." <br /> <br />Motion of ~r. ~ooks that .the following be added to the ordinance as a new section: <br /> <br />"Should the purchaser so desire and upon notice to the Oity of Portsmouth prior <br />to tbs printing of the bonds, the bonds may be exchanged for bonds of smaller <br />denomination of like tenor and maturity in an aggregate not exceeding ~3DQ,OO0.OO <br /> <br />was adopted. <br /> <br /> List of Capital charges paid from the current revenue presented by the 0ity Auditor, <br />was read and on motion, ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Motion of Er~ Hutchins that the ordinance be adopted as amended, was adopted and by <br />the followtug vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: B~ooks, Hutchins, Maupin, Mayo, Oast, Ogg, Stewart <br /> <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hutchins the followi~ ordinance was placed on its first reading: <br /> <br />"An Ordinance authorizing the borrowing of Two Hundred and Fifth Thousand <br />($250,000.00) dollars in anticipation of the collection of the revenues for <br />the year 193I, and p~oviding for the issuance of a note or notes therefor." <br /> <br /> Mr. Hu~ohzns presented the following resolution which~was adopted and copies or- <br />dered to be sept to members of the State Highway ~ommission: <br /> <br />"%~aereas, The Oouncii of the City of Portsmouth, realizing the importance of <br />continuing Route 12 from Alexanders to the city limits of Portsmouth at Ham- <br />ilton Avenue; and <br /> <br />~ereas, Council petitioned the Highway Commission, tt~ough Commissioner Trtux- <br />ton ~o~coD~truct said road; thereby giving Portsmouth a well defined and direct <br />route to our main thorofare; and <br /> <br /> Suave ~zghway Commission, at a meeting held on the above date <br />the city of Ric~nond, unanimously agreed to construct s~id road, with the co- <br />operation of ~Council and Board of ~pervisOrs, therefore <br /> <br />Be It Resolved, That the City Cotu%oil, in regular session, go on record as <br />thanking Commissioner Truxton for his untiring efforts in behalf of onr re- <br />ouest, and that the State Highway Commission be thanked also for its consi- <br />deration shown in our behalf." <br /> <br />On mo~ ion adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
