Tnzs year we have oaid up <br />$147,O00. worth of bonds. - <br /> These new bonds to be made of $100. denomination bearing 6 per cent <br />retest and the proceeds to be 'applied t? the floating debt.,, <br /> <br /> In this connection, on motion of ~r. Hutohins, the following ordinsnce was <br />placed on its first reading: <br /> <br />~rAn Ordinance Authorizing the Issuance of Fifty Thousand <br />($50,000.) dollars of bonds of the City of portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, to be known as Zmprovement Bonds for the purpose of <br />installing sewers and paving streets and oublic thoro-~ghfares <br />of 'said City, makiD~ provision for the fo~m of said bonds and <br />for the payment thereof." <br /> <br />in- <br /> <br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> The foiiowi~_g ordinance placed on its first reading ~2orii ~26th, was taken up, <br />and on motion of ~r. Hu-tehinz, laid on the table: <br /> <br />"An 0rdinanos to Amend ao~t Re-Ordain an Ordinance entitled, <br />'Au Ordinance Authorizing the Issuance of Tb~es Hundred <br />and Fifty Thousand Dollars of Bonds of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, for the pu~po~e of installir~ sewers and <br />pa~v~ng streets and public thoroughfares and building a new <br />bridge connecting streets in said Oity, ~aking provision <br />for the form of said bonds and for the payment thereof,~ <br /> adopted October 29, i931.'~ · <br /> <br />The following letter from the City Attorney was read: <br /> <br /> "At your 'last meeting, you referred to me a list showing relief of taxes made <br />by the ~o~missioner of Revenue. I have exs~mined the list and from the best i~-formation <br />w__~ch I could obtain~ the ~axes were properly relieved. 'The list was suomztte~ to the <br />court, which passem uoon t~e same in granting the relief, hence they should be relieved <br />and the City Collecto~ 'given prooer credit for the same." ' <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />The motion of ~Lr. Hutchins zo oonou~ in the City Attorney~ s recommendation was <br /> <br />~he _ol±owzng !ette~ from the Oity Attorney was read: <br /> <br /> "At you~ last meeting, you referred to r~ an order of oour$ r~lie~ing John F. <br />Culpepper of taxes amounting to One Dolle~ and Thirty-T.hree Cents ($1.~3) for each Of the <br />years 1931 and 1932o It ap~oeared at the hosting of this case that ~. Culpepper was as- <br />sessed with forty (50) feet of land, while he owned only thirty-five (35) feet and his as- <br />sessment was reduced accordingly. He should be relieved of the taxes as set forth in the <br />Court order.~1 <br /> <br />On motion of t~. Hutohins, the City Attorney~ s reoom~nendafion was concurred in. <br /> <br />- NEW BUSIh~ESS- <br /> <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State G~ae Vfs=den, of $18Z.50, for destroyi~mg seventy- <br />five tagless dogs at ~ ~ ~ <br /> ~2.50 each, was on motion, allowed from ~unas in the hands of the <br />Treasurer from co!!~o~on of dog ~ ~ <br /> <br /> Petition from the Trustees of St. paul A.E:E. 0hutch for relief from taxes on <br />leos i~ox. _~, aha 24, clock 49, plat of B~ighton, for years 1922 to 1932 amounting to the <br />sum of $8~.~2, was referred to the City A~orney. <br /> <br /> Order of 0ou~t reiievir~ Stephen F. Selby of certain taxes for year 1931 and 1932 <br />was on motion referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Privilege of the floor was granted Capt. Emmerson and ~jor Bentley, U.S. Army, <br />who asked that the electric wiriD~ in Armory and roof of the Stable be repaired, as both <br />were in bad and dao~erous condition. <br /> On motion of Er. Eayo, an appropriation ~f~$500;00 or as much thereof as neces- <br />sary was made for said repairs, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes - Brooks, Hutcn~ns, U. aupzn, Nayo, Oast, Ogg, Stewazt - 7. <br /> <br />Nays - None. <br /> <br />On motion ad~ouzned. <br /> <br /> <br />
