<br /> ADIER GENERAL OF THADDEUS KOSOIUSZKO A HERO OF THE REVOLUTIONARY
<br /> WAR BY ISSUING SPECIAL SERIES OF POSTAGE ST~PS IN HONOR GENERAL
<br /> THADDEUS EOSOIUSZKO SESQU IOENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY.

<br /> WHEREAS, on October 13th, 1933, will occu~ the one hundred and fiftieth anniver-
<br />sary of the ~atu~alization as an American citizen of Brigadier General Thaddeus Kosciuszko,
<br />a hero of the Revolutionary War.
<br /> WHEREAS, the service rendered by him was of great value and assistance to the cause
<br />of American Independence a~d of such high importance that on October 13th, 1~83, he was ap -
<br />pointed Brevet Brigadier General of the Oontinental Army, and was granted him naturalization
<br />as. an America~ citizen
<br /> WHEREAS, it is but ~itting that proper recognition should be given to the memory of
<br />Brigadier General Thaddeus Kosoiuszke w~hose iltustr~s service in the war for America~ Inde-
<br />pendence is well know~ to all who are familiar with our history, therefore,
<br /> SEOTION 1. Be it resolved by the Common Council of the Oity of Portsmouth and
<br />State of Virginia, That the Oommon Council of the City of Portsmouth and State of Va. hereby
<br />respectfully requests and urges His Excellency p~esident of the United States, Members of the
<br />House of Representatives and Senators from the State o~ Virginia, be mu~horized to respectful-
<br />ly memorialize, the United States 0ongress to enact legislation which will provide for ~he ef-
<br />£eetive carrying out of the provisions of the said bills, whereb~ the Postmaster General would
<br />be authorized and directed to iseue a special series of postage stamps of the denomination of
<br />3 cents, of such design and for such period as he may determine, commemorative of the one hun-
<br />dred and fiftieth anniversary of the naturalization as an American citizen and appointment of
