Gentlemen:

On June 3, 1932. this firm made formal application to the School Board, to be ac-
pointed as an authorized ~gent for school textbooks. This application was answered June 4~
1932 in a letter stating that according to law, all applicatioms must be made ~efore June 1st
of each yea=. Formal application was again made on January l~, 1933 and on April llth, 1933
an answer was received ~tating that 'After material consideration the Board passed a reso-
lution stating that it was inadvisable to make ~ny change in the handling of textbooks for
next year and reappointed W.K. Hodges as agent.
We realize that the 0ity Oouncil is not responsible for the acts of the SohooI Board~
but~ as the 0ity 0ouncil determines the rates of taxes imposed on. merchants; we respectfully
request that we Ce grmuted a material reduction in any such tax for the coming year. We feel
that we are being taxed to sell and then arbitrarily denied the riMht to sell.

Very ~ruly yours,
