Suggestion is offered that if the dates set for-~uy of these meetings conflict with your re~uDar council meetings that arrangements be made to change the date for your Council meeting in'September, to allow your officials to be present. This lethe only State-wide meeting of Virginia municipal officials, during the entire year, and it is-important that all councilmen and e~ecutive officers be present. · Please arrange also for your chiefs of police, sergeants~ building inspectors and wei~hts and measures officials to~ attend their respective group meetings, as well as other interested officials. Wallerstein, Executive Secretary, League of Virginia Municipalities. Motion of Mr. Hutchins to receive and file, was adopted. The Compensation statement of the Treasurer, Com~nissioner of Revenue and Com- monwealth Attorney was received, and on motion of Mr~ Hutchins, approved for payment. Mr~ Lawrence presented the following ordinance: "AN ORDINANCE TO RELEASE LNTEREST, PENALTIES, AND ACCRUED COSTS ON C~-~RTAIN TAXES PAID ON OR BEFORE DECFJ~BER 5th, 1936." Motion. of Mr. Lawrence to suspend the rules and consider the ordinance on its passage tonight, was lost, and by the following vote: Ayes: Leigh, Howard,, Lawrence, Weiseman, Wilson- Nays: Fox, ~rimes, Hutchins, Warren- ~ ~ (2/3 vote being neoessar~y to suspend the rules) Motion of Mr. Lawrence to place said ordinance on its first reading, was adOpted: Mr. Weiseman presented the following resolution, which was, on motion, "That a Special Committee of three be appointed by the Chair, with full power to investigate the possibilities of savings ~nd better service to the City, with. respect to the~Director of Public Welfare, Bureau of Social Service and ~he Coroner and that such Committee be directed to report back to the Council at the earliest possible date as to its findings and recommendations". The Chairman appoin~e~ Messrs. Weiseman, Wilson arid Howard on said Committee. On motion adjourned .... Clerk President
