Suggestion is offered that if the dates set for-~uy of these meetings conflict with your <br /> re~uDar council meetings that arrangements be made to change the date for your Council meeting <br /> in'September, to allow your officials to be present. Wallerstein, <br /> Executive Secretary, <br /> League of Virginia Municipalities. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to receive and file, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The Compensation statement of the Treasurer, Com~nissioner of Revenue and Com- <br />monwealth Attorney was received, and on motion of Mr~ Hutchins, approved for payment. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Lawrence presented the following ordinance: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO RELEASE LNTEREST, PENALTIES, AND ACCRUED <br /> COSTS ON C~-~RTAIN TAXES PAID ON OR BEFORE DECFJ~BER 5th, 1936." <br /> <br /> Motion. of Mr. Lawrence to suspend the rules and consider the ordinance on its <br />passage tonight, was lost, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Leigh, Howard,, Lawrence, Weiseman, Wilson- <br /> Nays: Fox, ~rimes, Hutchins, Warren- ~ ~ <br /> <br /> (2/3 vote being neoessar~y to suspend the rules) <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Lawrence to place said ordinance on its first reading, was <br /> <br />adOpted: <br /> <br />Mr. Weiseman presented the following resolution, which was, on motion, <br /> <br />"That a Special Committee of three be appointed by the Chair, with <br />full power to investigate the possibilities of savings ~nd better <br />service to the City, with. respect to the~Director of Public Welfare, <br />Bureau of Social Service and ~he Coroner and that such Committee be <br />directed to report back to the Council at the earliest possible <br />date as to its findings and recommendations". <br /> <br />The Chairman appoin~e~ Messrs.
