377 <br /> <br />October ~OSh, lqM6, <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hutehins to comply with said request was adopted. <br /> <br />The following petition was read: <br /> <br /> ~We, the following members of the police DeoartmenS of the <br />mouth, Virginia, earnestly request the Honorable 0ity Cotmc~l of said City, <br />.wages to the scale that existed prior to July 1st, 1932: <br /> <br />City Of ports <br />to restore our <br /> <br />(Signed) <br /> <br />L.H. Cherry, Chief of Police, and all members of the <br /> P ollce Department. ~ <br /> <br />petition. <br /> <br />PriVilege of the floor was granted Mr. I~Anson, who spoke ~n favor of said <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Fox, said petition was referred to the 1931 budget. <br /> <br /> The following petition was read, and on motion of Mr. Hutohtns, referred to <br />the City M~uaMer: <br /> <br /> "We, the undersized citizens of the City of portsmouth, Va., residing on <br />Green Street, from South Street to Lincoln Street, in the City of POrtsmouth, Va., are forced <br />to make this petition for tel&el from dust and dirt. <br /> Whereas, during the sturmer months, when the baseball season is opened, Green <br />Street serves as a thoroughfare to and from the ball park on Green St. This street being a <br />dirt street void of hard surface, causes it to be very dusty, and we suffer much from the <br />clouds of dust stirred up by the wheels of~ asr-moving automobiles, and the dust settles in <br />our homes and at times is very stifling even to pedestrians, and a menace to public hes~th. <br /> We do hereby request that something be done in %he way of some kind of hard- <br />~urfaoing on Green St~, from South to Lincoln St. <br /> Please give this matter your consideration for th~ good of the public. We are, <br /> <br />ou.s, the ,madersigned citizens, <br /> <br />(Signed) .J.H. Green, ~22 Green St. ~ud 64 others. <br /> <br /> R~-port of W.P.
