The CiTy Attorney presented the following ordinance: <br /> <br />"AN OP~iNANOE AUTHORIZING TF~BOP~OWLNG OF TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND <br />DOLLARS ($200,000.00) ~N ANTICIPATION OF THE COLLECTION OF THE. <br />REVENUE OF 1938, AND PROVIDING FORT HE ISSUANCE OF A N0~E OR <br />NOTES THEREFOR"o <br /> <br />adopted~ <br /> <br />Motion of ~r. Hutchins to place said ordinance <br /> - NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />on its first reading, was <br /> <br /> The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> ,Portsmouth Post ~37, American Legion, respectfully requests'the City Co~cil <br />to refund the $35.00 rental paid for The use of the City'Auditorium for its Armistice Ball, on <br />November llth, 1937. <br /> As is known ~o the members of Council, the funds derived from this dance are <br />spent in portsmouth to assist us in conducting our weekly Venereal Disease Clinic. <br /> Thanking you for your kind consideration of this request, I am, <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br />(Signed) R. E. Cassell,.respeetfully requesm ~haT m~e ~ge~ uon <br />ference of the City Council consider the inclusion mn theCitySs budget for 1938, of an appro- <br />priation of approximately $2,500.00 for carrying on a recreation program in the City.during <br />~hat year. <br /> The figure of $2,500.00 is taken from the appropriation of theOouncil and <br />the cost of carrying on the recreation program in the City during the year 1929. I~ does not <br />include the cost of-equipment necessary To completely equip the five proposed playgrounds of <br />~he Oily, as that coat would have to be estimated after a check of the equipment now in stor- <br />age. <br /> The purpose of this letter is to bring this matter to the attention of the <br />Council at-this meeting so that this appropriation may be given consideration at the proper <br />~ime.
