The CiTy Attorney presented the following ordinance: "AN OP~iNANOE AUTHORIZING TF~BOP~OWLNG OF TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($200,000.00) ~N ANTICIPATION OF THE COLLECTION OF THE. REVENUE OF 1938, AND PROVIDING FORT HE ISSUANCE OF A N0~E OR NOTES THEREFOR"o adopted~ Motion of ~r. Hutchins to place said ordinance - NEW BUSINESS - on its first reading, was The following letter was read: ,Portsmouth Post ~37, American Legion, respectfully requests'the City Co~cil to refund the $35.00 rental paid for The use of the City'Auditorium for its Armistice Ball, on November llth, 1937. As is known ~o the members of Council, the funds derived from this dance are spent in portsmouth to assist us in conducting our weekly Venereal Disease Clinic. Cassell,.respeetfully requesm ~haT m~e ~ge~ uon ference of the City Council consider the inclusion mn theCitySs budget for 1938, of an appro- priation of approximately $2,500.00 for carrying on a recreation program in the City.during ~hat year. The figure of $2,500.00 is taken from the appropriation of theOouncil and the cost of carrying on the recreation program in the City during the year 1929. I~ does not include the cost of-equipment necessary To completely equip the five proposed playgrounds of ~he Oily, as that coat would have to be estimated after a check of the equipment now in stor- age. The purpose of this letter is to bring this matter to the attention of the Council at-this meeting so that this appropriation may be given consideration at the proper ~ime.
