Hutchins, <br /> Commissioner of the Revenue~~' <br /> Motion of Mr. Fox that the ts~ be charged for collection, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, State Gam? Warden~ for destroying ninety-one ta~less <br />~ogs at $2°50 earn, totaling $22?.50, was presente~, and on motion of Mr. Hutchins, the Treas- <br />urer was authorized to pay same from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br /> The following letter was read~ and on mgtion, referred to the City Attorney: <br /> <br /> _ "The taxes on the property known as 1312 Washington St. for the years of 1~37 <br />and 193g were properly assessed in the n~e of James E. s~d Sybil Y~ Parrish and the taxes <br />thereon paid. <br /> ~e sams property is erroneously assessed f~r said years of 1~3~ and 1938 in <br />the name of E. R. Chandler. <br /> I respectfully request that you relieve said erroneous assessments. <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />Alvert W~ Philbricko~ <br /> <br />following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "The Helping Hand Mission asks the above-mentioned body if they can refund the <br />rent oaid for the use of the City auditorium on December 8th. As the pro_coeds were for charity <br />and as the council has granted my request in the past, I felt that they maybe able to grant my <br />request this time° ' <br /> Thanking you, I remain, <br /> Respectfully yours, <br /> <br />Rev~ J.H. Woodworth." <br /> <br /> Motion o~ Mr. ~ox ~o make said refund, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The Compensation reports of the 0ommissioner of Revenue and Commonwealth At <br />torney, for December, 1~39, were received, and on motion of Mr. Howard, ~oproved fom payment. <br /> <br /> Report of F.B. Hill for auditing ferry reoord~ for November, was received and <br />ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hutohins presented Adolphus Morgans Boy Scout, who would get credit for <br />attending a meeting of the Oouncil. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wilson that the Council go on receded as eo~mending the excellent <br />work of our Police and Fire Departments end of the Fire Department of the Navy Yard, at the <br />fire in the 1OO block of High St., on Tuesday, J~uuary 9th, was adopted. <br /> <br />The Cit% Manager made the following statement: <br /> <br /> "The City Engineer and the City Manager are making up a W.P.A. street oroject <br />which we will submit to the 'State Director in Richmond~ when ready. - <br /> I want to concrete London St., from Effingham St. Zo Second Ave., and Second <br />Ave., from London St. to Hi~n St., ~nd. resurface South St. all the way out from Crawford St. <br />west. This work can not be done out of current revenue~ and if~we can get the oroJect through, <br />! shall advocate the City issuing sufficient bonds to cover the City's part of ~he cost. I <br />will keep you advised." <br /> <br />On motion adjourned~ <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br /> President. <br /> <br /> <br />
