<br />Minutes of regular meeting held January 9th were read and approved.
<br />
<br />The following communications from ~he 0i~y Manager were read:

<br /> lat- The 1M~G~ager stated that the Boy Scouts asked that~ ~hey be allo~ed to
<br />occupy ~ar£oms offi~es for.one hour on some date to be announced, and if the 0ouncil did not
<br />object, he would grant said request~
<br />
<br /> 2md- TheEanager presented a bill from J.W. Cran~ for $100.OO for ~oola own-
<br />ed by Mr. Graml, in City auto repair shop, and said he would recommend the purchase of said
<br />tools, asp. rice was very sheap.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to concur in the Manager's recommendation, and to ap
<br />propria~te $100.O0 for said purpose, was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> Ayes - Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Howard, Hu~chins, Lawrence, Warren,
<br /> Weiseman,Wilson
<br /> Nays - None-
<br />
<br /> 3rd - "I have a letter from Mr. Haug, Director of Public Service, stating
<br />that J.T. Hall and J.M. Lester are physically incapacitated for further service.
<br /> Mr. Hall is seventy years old and has been in the service for more
<br />than twenty years. Mr. LesteD is also seventy years old and has been in the service for more
<br />than fifteen years.
<br /> ! reeommaend that Mr. Hall and Mr. Lester be retimed on a pension of
<br />$30.00 a month each."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Grimes to concur in the Manager's reeommenda~ on, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 4th - "The Salvation Army Oommittee waited on me yesterday and stated they
<br />were very much in need of $100.00 to help buy a second hand truck.
<br />This charitable a~ganization is doing a good ~ork in Portsmouth, and
<br />I recommendthat an appropria~tion of $100~OObe made, at this time, for the purpose indicated.

<br /> "The Woman's 0ouneil of PortsmomGh~ an associated organization of
<br />e~tv clubs doin~ charitable work, held a meeting for the securing of funds, in the city audi-
<br />torium, Sunday, January yth, 1950. The meeting fai~ed financially.
<br /> As the work cf the $ouncil is charitable and directed toward the
<br />general welfare of our Oity, we are requesting the return of the fifteen dollars paid for the
<br />use of the auditorium, which sum will be used to further our work.
<br /> - We will be grzteful~to you for the presentation of this petition to
<br />the honorable 0i~y Council.
<br /> I have the honor to be yours faith_fully.
