<br /> At a regular meeting of the Oity Oouncll, held Nay l~th, 1940, at ?:OO P.M.,
<br />there were present:
<br />
<br />John P'. Leigh, Leslie T. Fox, George L.-Grimes, Jame~ N. Howard, W. R.
<br />Hut--s, ~rank D. Lawrence, a. E. warren, H. Earl Weiseman, Pestle J.
<br />Wilson, and Ohas. F. Harper, Oity Manager.
<br />
<br />Minutes of regular meeting held April 23rd, were road and approved.
<br />The following communications from the Oity ~.nager were read:
<br />
<br /> 1st - w'Zt has become necessary to buy a new sterilizer for use b~ the Public
<br />Welfare .Department.~ The old one we have now has been in use since 1919. it is not only too
<br />small for the present ~olume of business, b~t is dangerous.
<br /> The cost of the new sterilizer will be $318.06. I hereby request an
<br />appropriation of t~kat amouht, at this time."
<br />
<br /> Notion of Mr. Fox to concur in the Manager's recommendation a~d to appropriate
<br />$318.O6 for said purpose, was adopted, and by the fo~lowing vote:

<br />Nays: None
<br />
<br /> 2nd - "It is necessary, at this time, to take action for mosquito control,
<br />tbts ~er. ~ne State representative, Mr. Doter, suggests t~at the City and aounty work this
<br />project Jointly. I appeared~efore the Board of Supervisors and suggested that the Oity and
<br />County co-operate in this ~ork.
<br /> The 0ity's cost, in this case, would be about $1100. OO. if we handle
<br />the project alone, the cost would probably be greater.
<br /> ! suggest an appropriation of $11OO.OO at this time, for the mosquito
<br />control pro,eot."

<br /> Motlo~ of Er. Hutohins to place the requested appropriation on its first read-
<br />ing, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 3rd - "At your las~ me,ting, you appointed a Recreation-Playground committee
<br />of three.
<br /> I ask that this e~mmittee be increased to five. There are three or
<br />four projects to be considered. I therefore feel that we should have a larger committee.~
<br />
<br /> Notion of Mr. Howard to concur in the Manager's ~ecommenda$ion, was adopted,
<br />and the Chair appointed Messrs. Warren and Grimes to said committee.
<br />
<br /> R~oort of t4e City Collector for the month of April, was received s~nd ordered
<br />filed.
<br /> Report of the Oity Auditor for t~e month of April was received and ordered
<br />filed.
<br />
<br /> Bill of J. Shirley Hope, StAte Game Warden, for destroying eighty seven tag
<br />less dogs at $2.50 each, totaling $217.50, was presented, and, on motion of Mr. Fox, the Treasj
<br />urer 'was authorized to pay same from funds in her hs~nds from collection of Dog Taxes.
<br />
<br /> The Com~ensation reports of the Oommissioner of Revenue, and Oommonwealth At-
<br />torney, for April, were presented, and, on motion of Mr. Fox, approved for payment.
<br />
<br /> Report of F.B. Hill & Company for auditing the ferry books and accounts for
<br />was received and ordered filed.
<br />
<br />On motion adjourned.
