Wil!ett, President, <br />Portsmouth School Board." <br /> <br /> The .following letter was read, ~d on motion of Mr. Fox~ referred to the City <br />Attorney: <br /> <br /> "On May 2nd, 1938, I obtained a permit ~7868 ~o wreck the building located at <br />628-30 Fayette St~, in the n~me of Leathel P~ Wimbrough. <br /> The Building inspector's records show that the building was wrecked and all <br />wreckage removed by May ~Oth, 193~o The buildi~ ~s valued at $600. and I have paid the tax <br />on ssme for the years !939 and 19~O, amounting to $30.00. <br /> Kindly let me have a refund of this tax as thebuilding was never taken off by <br />the assessors. Respectfully~ <br /> <br />(Signed) Mrs. Leathel P. Wi~orough~" <br /> <br /> The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> "I have been advised by Mr. Brinson, City Auditor~ that my compensation ~1! <br />expire on December 3, 1940. As you perhaps know, I have been receiving compensation at the <br />rate of $1~.00 per week for the death of my husband, Elridge R. Story, whose death resulted from <br />accidental injuries and amoutation of his leg while in the e~oloy of the City of Portsmouth, as <br />a police ~ficer bein~ o~duty at the time he was accidentally shot. Hi~ death occurred on <br />November 30, 1935 and since that time tne~C~ty of Portsmouth nas been payin~ compensation at <br />the rate of ~!4.00 per week, for the benefit of myself ~nd small son~ ~ <br /> I s~m still the widow~of Dlridge R. Story and our son is ~ow only twelve ~ears 1 <br />of age~ I am sure you fully realime my position and will make some provision for~us, in the way <br />of a pension, as long as I remain his v~dow or at least until our son reaches his majority and ~ <br />is able to take care of himself~ The compensation money has indeed been a great benefit to us <br />and has helped to alleviate the burden. ~ow that it will cease this month~ it ~ll olace us in <br />an embarrassing and ver~y difficult position. In fact, as ~he matter stands~ I do no~ see how I <br />it is possible for the coy to continue in school until such time as he will have completed even! <br />a ~6h School education~ -~ . ~ ~ <br /> · Will you kindly take t~s matter up at the next Counc~t meeting in an endeavo~ <br />t~ ~k~ ~ome orovision for a oension? I <br /> <br /> Very truly yours, <br /> <br />(Signed) Mrs. Grace Story." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Wilson, same was referred to the City Manager and City Attor- <br />ney for recommendation~ <br /> <br /> Bill of J~ Shirley Hope, State'Game Warden, for destroying 104 tagless dogs, <br />at $2.50 each~ totaling $~60~00, was received, and on motion of Mr. Hutchins, the Treasurer was <br />autiaorized to p~v same from funds in ~r hands from collectian of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br /> Compensation reports of the Commissioner of Revenue ~ud Commonwealth Attorney <br />for the month of November, were presented~ and on motion of Mr. Fox, approved for payment. <br /> <br /> Report of F.B. Hill & Company, for auditing the'ferry books and accounts, was <br />received and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins that as our next meeting would be on the <br />mas Eve, that we hold said meeting on the 2Zth, was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned~ <br /> <br />24th, Christ- <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />Approved - /9 /~ <br /> President. <br /> <br /> <br />
