May 15, 2001 <br /> <br />'-A35. <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, thero were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, <br />*P. Ward Robinett, Jr., *J. Thomas Benn III, William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. <br />Whitehurst, Sr., City Manager Daniel M. Stuck, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />01 - 156 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City <br />Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, <br />May 15, 2001 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may conSider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />01 - 157 - The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Proposed Operating Budget <br /> <br />01 - 158, Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded byMr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.1-344(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss <br />or consider the following: <br /> <br />employee personnel matters, as per subsection 1; and <br /> <br /> the disposition of public property, as per subsection 3. The subject property <br />is the Performing Arts Center. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, pursuant to Section <br />2.1-344.1(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Member's <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br /> requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which <br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br />the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Benn, that Council express its <br />approval of the proposed Agreement for the Perfor, ming Arts Center that has been <br />negotiated by our management team; that this approval be communicated to the <br />Industrial Development Authority so that it can proceed and execute the Agreement with <br />HCJV and also, that the City Manager take whatever official steps are necessary to <br />move forward with booking acts, selling tickets, issuing press releases, and finalizing <br />sponsorship agreements so that the Performing Arts Center can open as planned this <br />July, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />D~..~j~qm/e~L ~ s W.
