Walters, effective June 26th, to <br />assist~in the office o~f the Ohief o~Police, with reeords, data, etc. <br /> I have promoted Hubert L. mBlalook tO ~he rank of Sergeant'in the <br />Police Department, effective June l?th. <br /> YernO~ L. Davis.has been appointed substitute patrolman in the <br />Police Department, effective June 19th.~ <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> ~th - "Begimning Augus~ 2~th, and terminating September 1st, for a period <br />of eight days/~h~re willbe conducted in the City of Portsmouth, a training~hool for Ports - <br />mouth Police officers. <br /> There will be courses in raids and vice records and reports, <br />age, gambling laws, target practice, traffic regulations, e~c. The school will be compulsory <br />for all police officers except t~he Chief and the three Captains. <br /> This school will be conducted by the City o f Portsmouth with the <br />assistance of the League of Virghuia Municipalities and the State Board of Education - Training <br />and Industrial Division. The Federal Bureau of Investigation will lend us instructors for sabot- <br />age and civilian protection and I have been assured by Mr. nenrich of F.B.I. that any additional <br />instructors ~ may request will be granted." <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 5th - nI am in receipt of a t ele~ram from C. Fox, said resolution was adopted and by the following <br /> <br />vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Lelgh, Fox, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutchlns, <br /> Lawrence, Warren, Wilson <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 6th - nOn Wednesday, June lyth, the City Engineer, ~uperintendent of <br />Water Department and I attended a conference in the Oity Manager's office in Norfolk, relative <br />to priorities for water and s6.werage contra~ts. <br /> Mr. Rule Newman and Mr. Kenneth l~arkwell assured us that we would <br />be given A-1-A priorities on all of our sewer and water needs,n <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> yth - "Priorities for our Fire e~uip~ent have been requested from the <br />War Production ~oard and I will inform you immediately OT our rating, and as to how quiekly they <br />can be secured. <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> <br />
