12th fotlowing~ Ayes= Leigh~ Fox, Grimes~ Hall, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Warren, Wilson Nays · None The City Manager presented the following resolution: ~'BE IT RESOLVED That am~appropriation not exceeding $1,200~O0 out of the Water funds, be laid on the table until next meeting for the purpose of moving the water mains from the center of block Q on the plat of Glensheallah, be made upon the conditions, (1) that the United States of America acquire title to the land, and (2) the City P~anager be satisfied that a hospital will be erected on the land and the City has another right of way before the pipes al~e moved. And Be it Further Resolved that if and when the United States of America acquires title to the land and the pipes are moved there- from, that the proper officers of the City execute on behalf of the City a release of any interest which the City has in an ease- ment Dnrouoh said block of land. Motion of Mr. Howard to concur in the M~ager~s recommendation, was adopted. The Committee on Resolutions of Respect for David W. Murden, pre~ented the ~hich was adopted: .WHEREAS, an All-wise Providence has removed from among us our friend ~ud associate,David W. Murden, who for nearly half a century has been a faithful ~ud unselfish official of the City of Portsmouth~ and WHEREAS, the passing of our friend and associate has deprived the City of a fal thful officer and the community in general o f a beloved fri end, NOW THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of theCity o fPortsmouth, that we sincerely regret and d.eplcre the demise of'our friend s~ud as~ sociate whose place in our civil life will be difficult to fill. We find solace in the thought that his life and work will be a source of inspiration for those who follow. He leaves a record unsurpassed in the annals of cur City and ~u outstanding example of splendid charac~ ~er and good citizenship BE IT FUHTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon t~he records of the Council of the City of Portsmouth and a copy sent to the members of his family as an expression of our heartfelt sympathy in their be- reavement ~ LesIie T. M.Bland, State Game Warden, for destroying eight tag!ess dogs at $2.50 each, ~otaling $20.00, was-'presented, and on motion of Mr~Fox~ the Treasurer was au ~ thorized to pay same from funds in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes. The following letter was read and ordered filed: "The School Board at its meeting on ~nday, January $th, unanimously voted to extend its thanks and apnreciation to tneO_ty Council and to the City Manager for granting the budget submitted by theSchoolBoard, especially the additional request for a ten per cent imrease in the salaries of school employees.
