12th <br /> <br />fotlowing~ <br /> <br /> Ayes= Leigh~ Fox, Grimes~ Hall, Howard, Hutchins, <br /> Lawrence, Warren, Wilson <br /> Nays · None <br /> <br /> The City Manager presented the following resolution: <br /> ~'BE IT RESOLVED That am~appropriation not exceeding $1,200~O0 out <br /> of the Water funds, be laid on the table until next meeting for <br /> the purpose of moving the water mains from the center of block Q <br /> on the plat of Glensheallah, be made upon the conditions, (1) that <br /> the United States of America acquire title to the land, and (2) <br /> the City P~anager be satisfied that a hospital will be erected on <br /> the land and the City has another right of way before the pipes <br /> al~e moved. <br /> And Be it Further Resolved that if and when the United States of <br /> America acquires title to the land and the pipes are moved there- <br /> from, that the proper officers of the City execute on behalf of <br /> the City a release of any interest which the City has in an ease- <br /> ment Dnrouoh said block of land. <br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to concur in the M~ager~s recommendation, was adopted. <br /> The Committee on Resolutions of Respect for David W. Murden, pre~ented the <br />~hich was adopted: <br /> .WHEREAS, an All-wise Providence has removed from among us our friend <br /> ~ud associate,David W. Murden, who for nearly half a century has been <br /> a faithful ~ud unselfish official of the City of Portsmouth~ and <br /> WHEREAS, the passing of our friend and associate has deprived the <br /> City of a fal thful officer and the community in general o f a beloved <br /> fri end, <br /> NOW THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Council of theCity o fPortsmouth, <br /> that we sincerely regret and d.eplcre the demise of'our friend s~ud as~ <br /> sociate whose place in our civil life will be difficult to fill. We <br /> find solace in the thought that his life and work will be a source of <br /> inspiration for those who follow. He leaves a record unsurpassed in <br /> the annals of cur City and ~u outstanding example of splendid charac~ <br /> ~er and good citizenship <br /> BE IT FUHTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon t~he records <br /> of the Council of the City of Portsmouth and a copy sent to the members <br /> of his family as an expression of our heartfelt sympathy in their be- <br /> reavement ~ <br /> <br /> LesIie T.
