Warren, <br /> Pearle J.'Wilson and ArShur S~ Owens, CiTy Manager. <br /> <br /> Minutes of regular ~eeting held Ju~e' 22nd and special meeting of July 6th <br />were read and approved. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Howard, the rules were suspended to hear Mr. V.L.Parker, <br />who asked that the City change its tsx on slot machines to read as the License tax in Norfolk. <br /> <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />Notion o f ~. Mayo for medical <br />rendered Miss Eleanor Garris. <br /> <br />servi 06 <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Fox, the Treasurer was authorized to pay same from funds <br />in her hands from collection of Dog Taxes. <br /> <br />2nd - "M~. Wmo H. Ashcroft ha~ been appointed regular patrolman, effective <br /> <br />On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> 3rd ~ "! am in receipt of an offer from the Federal Government, dated <br />July 3rd, wit~ reference to recreational facilities i n t he City o f Portsmouth. <br /> The Government is offering us the sum of $15,340.O0 for recreation- <br />al facilities for t he rest of the year, and i respectfully reques~t that the attached resolution <br />be adopted. <br /> The City's part~of this total project will be $4,938. and I am re- <br />questing that the balance under the following accounts be transferred as our part~ofth~ appro- <br />priation, as follows: <br /> <br />¢!0 - 'Salaries <br /> 0 ther <br />¢2¢ - ~alaries <br /> Other <br />¢2¢ - Victory Gardens <br /> <br />$ 2,868.OO~ <br /> oo.65 <br /> <br />. 133.2~- <br /> <br />Resolution <br /> <br /> "RESOLUTION ACOEPTINGTHE OFFER OF <br />TEE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA -Recveational <br />Fae~ilities, Portsmouth, Va - Project VA 44-M-15. <br /> <br />. - WHEREAS, there has been filed with the Federal Works <br /> Agency, for and in behalf of the City of Portsmouth, Va., (herein <br /> called the "Owner'S), an application for Federal assistance under <br /> the Defense Public Works Program,~d the United States of America, <br /> acting by and through the Federal ~orks Administrator, has trans- <br /> mitted to the Owner an Offer of Federal assistance in connection <br /> with t~e public works referred to.in s aid application and described <br /> in said Offer; and <br /> WHEREAS, said Offer has been duly read in open meeting <br /> and has been fully considered in every respect in accordance with <br /> the pertinent rules of procedure and legal requirements; an~ <br /> WHEREAS, said Offer has been made a part of the~ublic <br /> records of the Owner; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is deemed advisable aud in the public in- <br /> teres~ that said Offer be accepted: <br /> NOW, therefore, Be it Resolved by the City Council of <br /> Portsmouth, Va., that the said Offer of the Unit~ Btates of America, <br /> a true and correct copy of which is hereto attached, be and the same <br /> hereby is accepted without reservation or qualification and that the <br /> proper City offlolals be authorized to sign the acceptance." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~Mr. Hutchins that we approve the action of the City Manager <br />and ~ne said resolution, was adopted, and by the following vote: ,~ <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Leigh, Fox, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutc~hins, Lawrence, <br /> Warren, ~ilson <br />None. <br /> <br /> 4th - <br />Saturday's paper for June <br />and Portsmouth~ from the <br /> <br /> "I received yesterday, July 12th, copy ~f an advance re!ease for <br />19th, 1943, with reference ~o the change in bus routes in Norfolk <br />Office of Defense Transportation. <br /> I sm filing it for future reference." <br /> <br />Notion of Mr. Fox to file, under protest, was adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
