Leith, Leslie T. Fox, Geo. L. Grimes, Russell M. Hall, W.R. Hut- <br />chins, Frank D. Lawrence, C. E. Warren, P~arle JoWilson and Arthur S. <br />Owens, City Manager. <br /> <br />approved. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular meeting held July 13th, 1953, were read and <br /> <br /> Privilege of the floor was granted a committee from the Portsmouth <br />Community Hospital, who presented the following remolution: <br /> <br />"~M~EAS, the Portsmouth Community Hospital, Inc. re- <br />ceived its charter o? creation from the State Corpora- <br />tion Commission of the State of Virginia, on the 6th day <br />of July, 1943~ and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the said institution <br />in its regular meeting on the 26th day of July, 1943, <br />adopted a resolution, directing its Co~mitzee to ~ppear <br />before the Honorable Council of our City requesting assis- <br />tance toward the construction and operation of the Hos ~ <br />pltal$ <br /> THEREFORE, Be it Resolved that the Honorable Council of <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, will give its moral sup- <br />port and influence in obtaining help from ~hose in position <br />to reffder help for the said institution, and, <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Honorable Cof~ncil go on <br />rec6rd and instruct, empower and direct the Ci~y Manager, <br />Mr. Owens, to render all possible aid, help and assistance to <br />the Board of Directors of the Communtty Hospital in an effort <br />to bring the said project into being; and that' the said <br />City Manager, under the said authority, exeroise~broad powers <br />in any way in carrying out the object and purport Of~ the said <br />resolution." <br /> <br />On motion, said resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />The following communications from the City ~nager were read~ <br /> <br /> 1st - "The Virginia Electric & Power Company income for the month <br />dropped off approximately eight per cenZ. <br /> This was due ~o the oha~es ordered by the Offi6e of De <br />lense Transportation." <br /> <br /> <br />
