Those built <br /> under lprovisions of the Lanham Act will be eliminated, according to our in <br /> formation, wit~mln ~wo years after the close of the War, at the discretion of <br /> the local governments. <br /> We know this large n~l~$P~f housing un,ts, which are today neces- <br /> sary for the emergency now confrontidg us, wilt create a surplus after hos- <br /> tilities- cease, and with this thought in mind, the ChAmber of Commerce will <br /> sponsor a meeSlng of a representative group of those directly affected to <br /> study the situation and make recommendations to our local ~overnments that <br /> suitable action may be taken to safeguard the interest of ~ortsmouth and <br /> Norfolk Count~. <br /> It is the purpose of the Chamber to hold a Preliminary meeting <br /> February 15th, 194~ at 8:00 P.N., in the rooms of the Chamber, and you are <br /> cordially inviSed to send two or more representatives to attend this meeting. <br /> Similar invitaSions are being sen~ to ~he following: Board of Su - <br /> per%i~ors of Norfolk Oounty Cradock and Norfolk Cou~y Chamber of Commerce, <br /> 0ommandant's Office, Navy Xard; Portsmouth Housing Authority, and representa- <br /> tives from the National Housin~ Authority." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to apooint a committee of two from the Council, for said our - <br />pose, was adopted. The Mayor appointed Messrs. Fox a~d P~ward on said Committee. <br /> l~$h - "It was the distinct misfortune of Nelson Butler, one of our traffic <br />officers, ~o be in a serious accident on December 31st, 19~3, and it mas necessary for us to <br />iransfer him to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, where specialized professional work <br />had to be performed on him. <br /> I am requesting a special appropriation ef $990.00 at this time, to <br />take care'of the expenses." <br /> <br /> No~ion cf Er.
