March ~$h~ l~. <br /> <br />first reading at the ~_st.meeting, was Taken up. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins To appropriate $1,1OO.O0 for said purpose was - <br />adopted, ~and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Leigh, Grimes, Hall, Howard, Hutchins, Lawrence, Warren,~ilson <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Report of the City Clerk & Auditor for the month of February was received <br />and ordered filed. <br /> <br /> Report of the Sinking Fund Commission for the year ended December ~lst, <br />was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />of Revenue: <br /> <br />The follo~ing letter was read and on motion referred to the Commissioner <br /> <br />by <br /> <br />in solely for welfare purposes, we nervby request the Honorable Council to have <br />mentioned above entered on the books of the City as tax free property. <br /> Thanking you for your consideration o f this request, I am, <br /> <br /> ~On March let, 1944~ the property located at 414 London St.~ was purchased <br />the Portsmouth Chapter, American Red Cross To be used by them as Chapter Headquarters. <br /> Due to the fact that these premises wil~ be used as soon as we can move <br /> <br /> the property <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br />Mrs. Robert G. Lowe, <br />Executive Secretary." <br /> <br /> ~At the regular meeting of the 0ommissioners of the Housing Authority of <br />the City of PortsmouTh, held on Ms~eh 2, 1944, it was voted to request the Council and the <br />City 2~nager of the City of Portsmouth to include certain items of work i n the current paving <br />progrsm. <br /> It is the understanding of the Housing Authority that the paving program <br />is now being formulated and it is respectfully requested that the items stated below be in <br />eluded so that the work may be promptly and efficiently prosecuted: <br /> <br /> 1 - RePair and resurfacing of South St. Road between the.west boundary of ~wanson <br /> Homes (vicinity of Sherwood Ave.) and Columbus Ave. extended. <br /> 2 - Repair and rssurfaoing of the south side of ~outh St. paralleling Swanson <br /> Homes and between the west boundary of Swanson Homes and Lansing Ave. <br /> 3 - DrainaEe and construction ~f proper roadway surface between Deep Creek Road <br /> and Columbus Av~. at Jefferson St. (a short strio of poor dirt road formerly <br /> known as Eli~abeth St.) <br /> h _ Paving and s~rfaeing of the east half of Columbus Ave. The west half of this <br /> roadway was paved by this Authority at the time Dale Homes was constructed. <br /> 5 - Repair 'and resurfacing of Dale St. in Truxton between Gosport Road and Armis- <br /> read Drive. <br /> 6 Repair and resurfacing of Do~mes St. in Truxton, between Deep Creek Blvd. and <br /> Armistead Drive. <br /> As will be readily evident, allo f these streets serve some of the <br />jeers operated by this Authority and items one s~d three above are particularly inconvenient <br />and in need of prompt action° <br /> ~e trust that the Council will include these items in its annual paving <br />progre~.
