<br />iday, and in order that none of our citizens shall be inconvenienced, I would appreciate auth~
<br />rity to authorize the~City Collector to defter penalty on uhpaid taxes one day, thereby making
<br />the penalty date effective Tnu_sday, July 6th.~

<br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to concur in the l~anager's recommendation, was adopted

<br /> 2nd - "It is ~¢ith~ regret ~hat I report the death of Mr. I. Co Bailey,
<br />who died on June 24th, 1~44, after thirty-seven years of faithful service to the City of Ports.
<br />mou~th. Er. Bailey was o~e of the Fire Department's most valuable employees and the loss of hi~
<br />services ~ill be distinctly felt by the City Government."

<br /> 2-~otion of Mr~ War~en to appoint a committee to ore~ent a resolution of

<br /> I have appointed Miss Norma.Saunders as Special Policewoman for
<br />period of four m0nths~ effective June 26th~ 1944.~

<br />4th - "An ordinance adopted by ~he Council on June t Sth~ 1927 has been
<br />ruled unconstitutional by the Hon~ Judge Lawrence W. I'Anson, Hustings Court, on June 24th, 19~.
<br /> ~e are making a study of a zoning ordinance ~ud have written en-~
<br />gineers with reference to t~he co st thereto for a permanent zoning ordinance within the City."

<br /> 5th - ~Pursuant to a recommendation of the Suoerintendent of the Water
<br />Department and her physician's certificate, I am recommending the retirement of Miss Margaret
<br />~ilson of the Water Department, effective June 30th, 1944, at one-half of her oresent salary,
<br />with an appropriation o f ~450.00 for the remainder of the year out of ~ater Funds.
<br /> Mis~ilson has been with the Water Department for a n~mber of
<br />years and has rendered faithful end efficient service°"

<br /> Motion of M~ Hutchins to concur in the ~nagerfs recommendation and to
<br />appropriate $450.00 for said purpose from Water Funds, was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> 6th - ~P!ease authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract from
<br />July 15th, 1944 for two ~ears ending July 14th, 1946, in the amount of $900.00 per year, for
<br />the property at the northwest corner of County and Washington Sts., with ~e Co!oni~l Stores,
<br />with a pre vise tlUat ~e lease be for one year subject to a thirty days notice to vacate."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Fox to concur in the Manager's recommendation with the oro~
<br />vise that if the City needs the property after one year, it shall be vacated on thirty days~
<br />notice, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 7th - "Due to the creation of a new land book, and the additional work
<br />entailed by the Commissioner of Revenuers office~ it becomes urgent that we have ~u additional
<br />appropriation of $300.00 to cover necessary printing and the purchase of an office desk and a
<br />stenographer's c~hair."
