<br /> Minutes of regular meeting held on August 22nd and called meeting of Seotem-
<br />bet 1st, were read and apDroved.
<br />
<br />The following r ~eport was made by the Resolution Committee:
<br />
<br /> "WHEREAS, Major Js~es M. Broughton,who~eor approximately *orty
<br /> years, has been a member o* the Police Department o~ the City
<br /> o* Portsmouth, many o* ~hich years were spent as its Chie*, and
<br /> ~W1~EREAS~ Major Broughton now *eels it necessary to retire ~rom
<br /> active duty, owing to the condition o* his health,
<br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City o* Ports-
<br /> mouth, Virginia, that in the retiremen~ o~ Major Broughton, the
<br /> $ity loses one o~ its most efficient of*icers and one who has
<br /> always been loyal,
<br /> AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Counoil expresses its
<br /> regret in the retirmenet of Major Broughton, recognizing ~his
<br /> long and faithful s~rvices, and in appreciation o* such service,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED that a copy o* these resolutions be spread upon
<br />the minutes o* the Council and a copy sent to Major Broughton."

<br />at the Godwin St. Pumping sta~ion to the Pittsburgh-Res M0ines Steel Comoany, *or $10,000.00
<br />and you held in abeyance action until I could have the Water S~oerinten~ent present to explain
<br />any technical points regarding the sale o* this ~ tandpipe. Mr. Murden~ is here to answer any
<br />questions relative to this matter."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Hutchins to concur in the recommendation e* the City Manager
<br />to sell the standpipe at C~dwin St. Station for $t0,000.00 as is and whtre is, with a 20 inch
<br />valve, was adopted, and by the *ollowing vote:
