<br />render as many services a~ we would like. However, any request made on us to assist in the
<br />Clean-Up Campaign will be given every consideration."

<br /> 4th - "Thursday, October l~h is the birth date of Christopher Colum-
<br />bus, and in many sectians of the country it isobserved as a national holiday either all da~
<br />or part of the day.
<br /> I am granting City e~oloyees a holiday f~om l:O0 o,cloek and
<br />would appreciate your concurrence in my decision."

<br />Notion of Mr. W~seman to concur in the Manager's request, was adopted.

<br /> 5th - "At the request of Councilman Grimes, we have made a study of
<br />the cost of renovating the Community Hall on Des Moines Ave.
<br /> The work is needed, 'out will take a special appropriation of
<br />$500.00, which I am recommending be made~"
<br />
<br /> Notion of Mr. Grimes to concur in the Manager's recommendation smd to
<br />appropriate $500.00 for said purpose, was adopted and by the following vote:

<br />effective July let, and since there was no ~opropriation made in this year's budget, I believe
<br />we can complete the year without an appropriation.
<br /> I have filed claim with the Government for damages caused by
<br />wear, in the amount o f $4,000.00. However, I believe it is the par~ of wisdom to put the p to-
<br />perry into use immediately. I am placing a charge of $3~.50 for the use of the Armory for
<br />
<br />any given day or night or the City under this agreement will have an option o f ten per cent on
<br />the total receipts, less Government taxes."

<br /> 8th - "The attached letter has been received from the City Engineer,
<br />in furtherance of a request made by Councilmen Lawrence an~ Wilson, relative to the paving of
<br />Queen St.
<br /> It is my recommendation that the requested funds be appropriat-
<br />ed and t~hat the ~anager be authorized to proceed with the work."
<br />
<br /> Inclosure - "In reply to your mquest of Ju%y 24th, regarding the re-surfacing over
<br />existing cobblestones on Queen St. from Effingham St. to Chestnut St. as requested by 14r. Law -
<br />fence, this is to advise you that the cost of this one block will be $83~.OO.
<br /> I would like to recommend that if this is done that the re-surfacing
<br />be extended all the way-from Effingham S~. to Elm Ave~, the total cost will be $3,600.O0.This
<br />has been needed for a long time. There are se~eral garages that ex~end through between Chestnut
<br />and Hat,on ets., also the Norman Packing Co. and between Hatton and Pearl ets. it is the main
<br />outlet f~om Proctor's Goal a nd Wood Yard.
