<br /> 4th - "You authorized me, at our last meeting, on January 9th, to have ali
<br />dairies in and near the City inspected, and in furtherance of your instructions, sixty-nine
<br />dairies and five plants have been inspected since Jauuary llth.
<br /> It is our belief that all milk sold in the City of Portsmouth is safe."
<br />

<br /> 5th - "Work is progressing on the new fire station to where I fee! we are in
<br />a position to use the present quarters of the Park View Fire DePartment for an improvement
<br />which I believe will be both beneficial and progressive for our City.
<br /> I would like authority to proceed immediately to secure estimates and
<br />cost for the renovation of the presen~ building, the downstairs of which may be used by the
<br />Hon. Judge Oast as an office and Court for Juvenil~ Domestic and Oivil cases.
<br /> In addition, space will be provided that citizens may pay %heir traffic
<br />fines at this location, as well as being the headquarters for the Traffic Bureau.
<br /> The upstairs may be used ai~r ~o~ffices e~ a small meeting hall.
<br />The cost of ~he total improvement will not be great - possibly under $3,000.00."

<br /> Mc tion o f Mr. Hu~chins ~o concur in the Manager's recommendation and to place
<br />an ~opropriation of $3,000.00 for said purpose on its first reading, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 6th - "You authorized me at our meeting on January 9th ~o try and secure ad-
<br />ditional fuel oil for ou~ P0r~smouth citizens, and on Tuesday, January 16th, I conferred with
<br />members of our local Rationing Board and was assured by them that in any cases of a hardship
<br />nature, additional oil would-be granted.
<br /> Personally, i am of the opinion that they are f~iling to send a suffi-
<br />cient amount of gasoline a~d ~il into this area to meeZ our minimum needs, a nd in furtherance
<br />of your instructions, I expect to contact officials in Washington immediately, relative to som~
<br />relief.~
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard that the Ohair appoint a committee composed of representa-
<br />tives from the Council and citizens to work with the City Manager, with power to act, to con -
<br />tact the Federal authorities relative to an increase in transportation facilities, fuel oil,
<br />gasoline, coal and all items necessary for the area, was adopted.
