E. <br />Parker~ City Collector~ were audited by Lo C. Brinson~ City <br />Clerk & Auditor, as of Febrmary 2?th, 1945, and according <br />to the report of the City Clerk & Auditor, w ere found cor- <br />rect, as shown by the books of the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, i~ appears that it is the duty of the City Council <br />to have examiaed yearly, the list of uncollected taxes., and <br />to credit ~he City Collector such taxes, as in their opinion, <br />could not have been collected with due diligence, and <br /> WHEREAS, it appears tha~ A. E. Parker, City Collector, <br />should be credited with .all taXes levied in 1944, remaining' <br />uncollected on the 2?th day of February, 1945, ~he amonn~ of <br />which Is shown in said report of L. C. Brinson, City Clerk <br />and A~ditor. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the.~City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that A~ E. Parker, City Collec~ r, <br />be credited with all uncollecte~.t~xes levied I n 1944, re- <br />maining in his office on February 2?th, 1945, and that he be <br />relieved of hie responsibility for not having collected the <br />same, but nothing herein contained shall be construed as re- <br />lieving the pa2ment of said taxes by thepersons owing same, <br />or in relieving A.E. Grimes, $o adopt said ordinance, as amended, was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Fox, Grimes, Howard, Hutchins, <br /> Warren, Weiseman <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Lawrence, Sturtevant, <br /> <br />The amendment - <br /> <br />adopted: <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Grimes to add to the third Paragraph the following, was <br /> <br /> "A swing check valve shall be placed in the water line at the <br /> fixture valve." <br /> <br /> The President ~tated that the Electrical contract would expire on January <br />let, l~4y and asked the City'Attorney to Prepare a resolution notifying the Virginia Electric <br />and Power Company of our intention to discontinue said contract on its expiration date° <br /> <br /> Mro Hutchins stated he believed the law enforcement against Jay-walking <br />was doing good and asked the Chief of Police to make a statement in regard to ~ame. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
