Mr. Kenneth Scribner, <br />Jr. named a Craft after the City of Portsmouth in the Pacific area, and it enjoyed considera- <br />ble publicity for our good city. <br /> It seems fitting to me that we ta~e official cognizance of their <br />excellent work." <br /> <br />ed to read to the <br /> <br /> On motion referred back to the M~nager for suitable resolution. <br /> <br />llth - ~I am in receipt of the following letter, which I have been request- <br />Council: <br /> <br />'As President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and on <br />behalf of the chapter members, I wish to register the strong <br />opposi~ti0n of the chapter to the removal of the Confederate monu- <br />ment o~ Court Street. <br /> The m&n~ment is a memorial to the Portsmouth men who fought and died <br />for their native state and Confederacy. The monument represents a tre- <br /> mendous struggle to raise funds for its erection. The monument is one <br /> of the distinctive land marks of Portsmouth.
