<br /> The privilege of the floor was granted ~. C. W. Cooper, who spoke to the
<br />Council in regard to the Daylight. Saving and the ~ing of the A.B.co Board for beer dealers,
<br />which was, on motion of ~. Hutchzns, referred to the City Manager and City Attorney.
<br />
<br />The following communications from the City ~anager were read:

<br /> 1st - ~You authorized me to make a study of insurance for our city build-
<br />ings, and I am recommending a ~ther study be made before we make final decisions."
<br />

<br /> End - "Lieutenant Colonel James W. Roberts has written a letter to me in
<br />which he requests that I extend to you his appreciation for the resolution you adopted co,mend-
<br />ing the Virginia State Guard f or t heir services,
<br /> Colonel Roberts in his pen-ultimate paragraph, states:

<br /> ~rd - "Last yea~, you authorized me to purchase an ambulance and up to,he
<br />present time, in spite of strenuous efforts, i have been unable to secure one.
<br /> I have checked with the War Assets Administration, the State Health
<br />Deoartment, the U.S. Bu~e~. of Health a nd the m~u~ufactu~ers of ambulances, but to date I have
<br />been u~able to secure one ~uitablefor our City. Under tlme law, veterans have ~riority for all
<br />ambulances, which ca, be converted very easily into trucks for business - then the Army, Eavy,
<br />Federal Government agencies, late~ other state and Federal agencies - then cities. Therefore,
<br />our chances of getting an ambulance seem mlim, until they a~e constructed. Howevsr, i n accord-
<br />ance with y o~o~ instructions, i will continue to make this purchase.=
<br />

<br />period of three or fou~ years and just as soon as the info~r~ation i s available, I will report

<br />the planning, emgineering,~supemvision and designing of a treatment disposal plant, of whiah the
<br />minimum will be $38,000.00 and the maximum $4~,000.O0. The Federal Government has advanced us
<br />$28,000.00 on this project k~ov~as VA 44-141-No
<br /> In order that we z0~y ~ediately begin work on the treatment plant,i
<br />would appreciate an appropriation of $48,000.00 to pay for this engineering service - the con -
<br />tract to be signed subject to the approval of the City Attorney.
<br /> Authority must be included in this that the strm~ is to b e repaid to
<br />the General Fund from bonds to be issued at a later date~"
