Lawrence, was "The Chsmber of 0ommere~ h~s received a number of requests from sources contemplating the operation of regularly scheduled airline passenger, ~eight and m~ 1 service from and to Portsmouth. One of these requests was from an airl~ue company which made application in Janual~ of last yea~ to the Civil Aeronautics Board for pe~ission to establish flying se~ vmce from a point in Tidewater Virginia to Washington, Baltimore, New Tork aud other points north. The City ~anager and the ~anaging-Director of this Chamber appeared before a Civil Aeronautics Board Committee hea~ing in Philadelphia at that time an~ presentedPortsmeuth~s request for desi~tion as an airline terminal, We have been requested by the aLvline company referred to above to ask that officials o~ the City of ~orts~outh make further efforts at this time to secure the designation, ~iohtas applied for lamt Jantu?J~, of this City as au essential location for airline terminal s ervieee ~e feel that in order that Portsmouth keep abreast of the trend and progress being made in the field of air tranmoortation that it is u~gent that a i~ll and thor- oughinves~gatmon of the possibility ef acquiring such service be made at this tmme. Lav~ence and Wel cono~drr e d in: The following ~esolution was read and on motion of Mr. Lawrence, "~he following reso!utior~ were adopted at the meeting of the Portsmouth-Norfolk County Comntittee for the c~sposz ~zon of Public ~a~ Housing, held on Monday night, February 24, 1947. EESOLVED, that sinc~ there exists a veterans housing emergency which eo~ald not be anticipated at the time of the submission of the final r~port of the Portmnouth-Norfolk Country Committee for the Disposition of Public ~a~ Housing in June 1943, a d eraand having developed for th* resale of the d~mountable houses in Alexander Park, Project VA 4~-153, to veterans, the Co~nittee, believing it to be in the best interesEs of both the veterans ~ud the co~munity, reco~ends that a b!ook of housing of spprox- imately 500 units, contiguous to schools, utilities and desirably located otherwise, be made available for resale to veterans on their present sites; and BE tT ~RTHER RESOLVEDthat rite appearance of the units be improved by whatever me~m~s a~e fouz~i practicable and the cost of such im - provement added to the resale cost; and BE IT EL~THF~RES~GLVED that except for the units referred to above the disposition of ~emountable housing in ~lexander Park within the area west of the Elizabeth River shall be in accordance with the previous reco~m~endations of the Committee a~d commitmants by the Feder~ t~Ablio Housing Authority, RESOLVED, tha~ the Portsmouth-Norfolk Oounty Oormnittee for t he Dis- pssition of Public Ea~Houslng, mindful of the attempts by present
