Mr. Howard stated that serious considerationis now being given to the SchooI Board' s request. The following letter was~read and referred to the City Attorney: "~here was reported as paid.on our &riminal Judgment Docket of Jauuary 15th, 19~7~ fine and costs in amount of ~103.50, ~aieh was paid by Nr. E.L. Hudson acco~ut of his son,Elmer Hudson, who was cha~ged with alleged offense of ~Unauthorized use of automobile~. The Court upon hea~ing further evidence ordered the case against Emdson reopened as of Fev~uary 12, 194V, dismissing the said Elmer Hudson of the offense with which he w as charged. I am therefore of the opinion that the sum of $103o80 shouldb e remitted to Nr.E.L. Hudson and.would appreciate your consideration o f the matter. Respect~ally yours, ~?m. At a called meeting of the City Council, held October 24th, 1947, there were present: Leslie T. Fox, Charles O. Barclay, Geo. L. Grimes, Arthur P. Henderson, James N. Howard, E.Rebie Stu~tevant, C. E.Warren, H.Earl ~eiseman, Pearle J. '~ilson and R.C. Barclay, City Attorney. The call for the meeting was read: WYou are requested to attend a called:meeting of the City Co~ucii, in the Couucil Chamber, at 7:~0 on Friday evening, October 24th, to consider the resignation of the City Manager. By 0rder of the President." The resignation o f the City Mar~ger was read: "Pus to my election as City Manager of Roanoke, Va., effective J~u - ary 1st, 19~8, I am tendering my resiguation as City Manager of Portsmouth, effective the lat- ter part of December, 19i7. It i~ my intention to complete the budget, pre, are all annexation needs and in turn, assist and planin e very way possible for the ye~ 1948. It has indeed been a pleasure to work under your capable leadership. Tou and the members of the Council have been most kind, considerate and co-operative, and I extend my heart-felt appreciation and grateful- ness. ~ith host wishes, I am, Cordially yours, Arthur S.
