Ninutes of previous meeting were readand approved. The following report from the Planning and Zoning Commissionwas. read: "At a meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission held on February 8th, 19~8, the following was adopted: 'The Planning Commission recommends that the p~mt of Culpepper Road v~ich runs north and s6uth be closed. Generally speaking, the old Culpepper Road parallels new Ninth Ave. The bed of the Road beLug approximately fifteen feet west of New Ninth Ave. Signed - G.C. Roberts, ~laairmau.~ On motion of Nr. Warren, said report was approved. The Chairmas_ called Mr. S~u~tevant to the ~nairand cslled attention to t~ fact that the 19~8 Budget did not carry any sppropriation for ~ncrease in ~nsions and gratui - ties and his motion that the pensions andg fatuities be increased ten per cent begir~ing Janu ary 1st and that an appropriation o f ~R5,000.00 be placed on its first rea~ng, was adopted. Privilege of the floor was, on motion of ~. Howard, g~anted to a delega- tion o f the Chamber of Commerce, who renewed their request of October l~th, !9~7, for the City to contribute ~28,000.00 to ~u industrial fend of ~80,000.00 to be created and to ask the Legislat-ome to ~end the City Charter to allow the same. ~otion of~.r.i~ Howard that we ask our members in the Legislature to intro- i ' duce a Biti~to g ye the City authority to subscribe to the Industrial Pund, was adopted~ On motion o f Mr. Howard, the privilege of the floor was granted Fay~ whe presented the following, whlchvas, on motion, r eferredtothe "As you know, we are building ~8 houses on the remaining lots in North Truxton so as to complete the development of this a rea. The new construction is located on both~sides of Bagley Street. inasmuch as these h~uses will be comDleted shortly, we are ~iting to request the installation by the City of the sewer line to serve these houses. ~e have gone over the matter with the City Engineer, ~. Bergeron, and it has been estimated that ~000 fee~ of sewer at a cost of $$T~0~00 will be required~ ~nere will also be required ~00 feet of pavement, the length of Bagley Street, with connections to Dal? Israel, City Recreation Director, resigned effective February 7th to accept a positmon with a.~business fiFm l n Winston-Salem, N.C. ~. Israel rendered very valuabla service to the City and it was with regret that I accepted his resignation. I have appointed Mr. T. C. Miller to the positio~ of City Recreation Tkireotor and ~rs. Taylor Jackson i~own as Assistant Director, in place of On motion ordered filed. Bnd ~Attaehed is a bill of E. T. ~ite, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Norfolk County for $1,00B.88 for preparing the real estate assessment included in the annexed ter~.~itory, and a bill of $1~.90, balance due on court costs, and $B9.~ for certifying t~_ree cop~es of the Annexation Order. i respectfully request a special appropriation of $1,0~8.0~ to pay the three bills and to be charged to Annexation expense.~ Motion of Mr. Grimes to place an appropriation of {~t,046.05 for said purpose, on its first reading, was adopted.
