Ainsworth, Rear Admiral, U.S.N., Commandant Fifth Navel Dis- <br />trict, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Roosevelt Airport, Eorris Music Shop and Ers° H.A. ~inboiuae ~udl <br />others. Petitions against day-light saving were received from the Veterans of Foreign ~¥ars, <br />Portsmouth ~inisteriaI Associatdon, S. R. Vick, 2eaboa_~d Federated Shop Craft, S.A.L. P~mmping Station <br />and inspected the Air Compressors which Er. Murden proposed to sell. We agree with Mr. 5{urden <br />that these compregsors are obsolete and of no further use to the City. We recommend that they <br />be sold to the highest bidder. <br /> ~e also visite~ the Filter Plant in Suffolk and found that the agita- <br />tors in question are deteriorating r~ idly and in a short time will have to be renewed. We <br />recommend that the new agitators be purchased. <br /> We also reco~end ~that the lot located at the corner of Washington <br />and Pelham Sts. be donated to the City o~f Suffolk. <br /> Your Committee believes that the question o f installing the Pitometer <br />System and the making of maps for the same, is a question that should be discussed by the <br />Co~muci!. <br /> Respectfull~ submitted, <br /> <br />C. Wilson - Committe~.'~ <br /> <br /> ~otion of Mr. St~tevaut to concur in said report and that proper <br />officers be authorized ~to execute same, was adopted, <br /> <br />The following commZuuications from the acting City Eanager were read: <br /> <br />!s~ - '~I find that the gross revenue fror~ consumers of water out- <br />side the City limits in 194V was ~3~,331,07, and the total gross revenue of the water works <br />system was ~748,373.05, ~nd that the proDortion of revenue from outside consumers to the total <br />gross revenue was~ 3i.?13%o ~ <br /> <br /> i notified the Commissioner of Revenue of Nansemond Couuty <br />as to the above figures and not the ~igures reported to you at your last m eetim~.~ <br /> <br /> On motion ordered filed. <br /> <br /> End "I have ~found it necessary to borrow ~100,000'.00 from the <br />Bank of Virginia, in anticipation o f the oollection of the revenues of the City for the year <br />lg~8 and it will be necessary to borrow other funds during the year. <br /> The attorney for the bmak desires a resolution to be passed <br />by the Council, %oproving this loan and such other loans as the bank may make during tDis yea~ <br />and i request the adoption of the attached resolution." <br /> <br />Resolution - <br /> <br />"RESOLVED, that the City of Portsmouth borrow from the <br />Bank of Virginia, the snmof FoU~Humd~ed Thousand Del - <br />la~s, in anticipation of the collection of the reven~ss of <br />the City for the calendar year 1948; that the proper of - <br />ricers be authorized to make a note or n~es maturing at any <br />time prior to December 31st, 1948, at two (2%) per cent in- <br />terest, to'-evidence such borrowing;~and the revenues of the <br />City for the current year are pledged to the reps~ment of <br />su~h borrowing." <br /> <br />On motion of Er.
