I have attached the City <br />~ineer~s estimate for the cost of this work which involves an expenS~tu~e of twenty thousa~ud <br />dollars <br /> <br /> ~otion of ~r. Warren ~o make Jefferson Street, between Fourth and Fifth <br />Streets a one-way street, with traffic going west, and pr~hmbztzno parking on t he north side, <br />and that the following ordinance for said p~pose, be placed on its first reading, was adopted: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING JEFFERSON STREET BETWEEN FOURTH AND <br />FIFTH STREETS A 0~-E WAY STREET FOR THE PASSAGE OF VEHICLES <br />AND PROHIBITING PARKING ON THE NORTH SIDE TP~REOF, AND PRO - <br />~r~ZDING PENALTIES FOR TB~ VIOLATION OF '±'~i~ 0RDINA~CE." <br /> <br /> The following petition signed b~ ~: James J. Houghto~, was referred to the City Manager <br /> <br /> "We, the undersigne~ property owners of Oregon Acres, urgently request <br />the construction o ~ashington Avenue from Airline Boulevard to~Dyoming Avenue. The right <br />of way for a fifty foot street, namely, ~Jashin~ton Av~., was provided in the original plot of <br />Oregon Acres ~ud we consider it the responsibility o f the City Council to t ~e immediate ac- <br />tion on this project, in order: <br /> 1. To eliminate &n unsightly a~ea that h~s grown up inw eeds and <br /> brush, thus furnis~a!ng a harbor for mosquitoes, and a d~mrping <br /> g~ound for garbage and debris. <br /> 2. To fur~i~hanincentive toward the beautification of lawns aud <br /> garden~ adjacent to t2meproposed ~Jashington Avenue. <br /> 3.
