The State has recognized this to be necessary to the welfare of coal dealers <br />and others in the sa~me sort of position. Today in <br /> the home, we have for example, the all-electric kitchen, with push button and automatic con - <br /> trol; mn our basement or ut_lzty room we have the tzme-controlled automatic furnace; in manu- <br /> facturi~ plants and work shops we have push button and e_ectron~c~ ' controls. These devices <br /> require skilled mechanics, with the knowledge and experience to install and maintain them pro- <br /> periy~ <br /> Doctors, law, ers, engineers and pl~ambers are not granted license to <br /> practice their orofession or trade in the City until they have proven by passing au examina- <br /> tion that they ~ave the proper eualif~cations.~ - ¥~y not electricians? Pollard, Sec.~ <br /> ~rd - ~After reviewing the attached proposed ordinance wlQich was submitted <br />to you recently by the lectrmcal League of Portsmouth, Z am of the opinion that mt may be <br />worthy of consideration. <br /> TheElectricat Lea~ae of Portsmouth, a fairly new organization, is <br />composed largely of electrical contractors licensed in the City of Portsmouth. The intent of <br />the proposed ordinance, is that the City create a board of electrical e xaminers,.whose duty it <br />would be t~ pass on the qualifications of electrical Contractors and electrical jo~neymen, <br />operating or plying the electrical trade in the City. The draft is very similar to the Plumb- <br />ing Code which has been in effect for a number of years. <br /> At present, as in the past, there is no legalmeans of denying any <br />person the privilege of paying the required license tax and fumishing the necessary bond in <br /> <br /> <br />
