Mot$on of Er. Houghto~ to l~y on t able, was adopted. <br /> <br /> The privilege of the floor was granted }~r. George Ames and Dr. Vernon <br />A. Brpoks, who spoke in regard to the. milk paper. <br /> <br /> The following letter was received from the Department of Welfare and <br />Institutions, which was ordered filed: <br /> <br /> ~Tl~e lock-up of the City of Portsmouth was inspected by this Division <br />on July 1st, 19~9. A report on this inspection is submitted herewith. <br /> Efforts to make the best use of the available lock-up facilities are <br />appreciated. It iR hoped that adequate facilities will b e provided. <br /> Assuring you o f the continued interest of this Division a nd our will- <br />ingness to be of assistance to you in any way we can, concerning your lock-up problems, I am, <br /> Yours very truly, <br /> <br />R.~. Touell, Director, <br /> Division of Corrections." <br /> <br /> The following letter was received from the Department of Welfare eamd <br />Institutions and was ordered filed: <br /> <br />July 1, 1949. A report <br /> <br /> "The jail of the City of Portsmouth was inspected by this Division on <br />on this inspection~is submitted herewith. <br /> Improvements made are appreciated. It is hoped that the r ecommenda- <br /> <br />t~ons made in this report will be complied with. <br /> Assuring you of the continued interest of this Division and cur wil- <br />lingness to be of assistance to you in any way we can concerning your jail problems, i am, <br /> <br />Tours very truty, <br /> <br />R.M. Youell, Director, <br /> Division ~f Corrections." <br /> <br /> The Clerk presented a list of officers who paid a fee for Prima~y on <br />Aug~st 2nd, and ~¢no had no opposition and each of them was declared the nommnee. <br /> <br />~s. ~ary Hudgins - $128.00 <br />R. E. Glover - $1~0.00 <br />L. E. Turlington ~lS0.00 <br />John Alden 0dst ~ $178.00 <br /> <br />Total $480.00. <br /> <br />adopted, and by the <br /> <br /> Motion o f ~. Warren to appropriate $480,00 to pay said bill, was <br />following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Fox, Bilisoly, Duke, Grimes, Henderson, Houghton, <br /> Howard, Sturteva~t, Warren, Weiseman, Wilson <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />The following letter was read: <br /> <br /> ~'We were before City Council on July 1Bth, 19~9, to obtain ~ ermis- <br />sion to use City Pa~k for Bible lectures during August. ~e were denied. ~aybe there ms a mis- <br />unders~andmng as ~o what we are requesting.
