Lo ~illiams, President~ Americ~ Federation <br />of State, Co~uty ~ud ~un~c~p~l ~uployees~ was read aud~ on motion of ~r. Howard, referred to <br />the City Hanager: <br /> <br /> "in ~rder ~o Lmqorove working conditior~ and bring better satisfaction t o <br />employees of the City v~no work on an hourly basis and who have no s ec~ity of a pension in <br />*lueir old age ~ud who lose pay for time lost due to sickness, we respectfully requesv serious <br />consideration of the following points: <br /> <br />1. That these employees receive p ay for lost time d~.e ~o bonafide <br /> cases of sickness. <br /> That some pension plan be adopted ~at will give securityto <br /> these employees in their old age~ <br />3. That these employees be granted fourteen days annual vacation <br /> ea~ year. <br />4. That a committee of City o fficials be appointed Zo meet with a <br /> con~aittee of our organization who reoresent these employees, to <br /> work out and discuss the details of ~his requests~ <br /> <br />adopted: <br /> <br />~r. Howard read the follov~ing resolution and, on his motion, s ~me was <br /> <br />"?~_~W~EAS, the ~itlantic Coast Line Railroad Compauy has peti- <br />tioned the State Cor~oratian Co~mnission of Virgir~la and the Util- <br />ities Co. lesion o f ~orth Carolina. to pe~zt ~ne removal of th~i~ <br />passenger trains Nos. ~8 and ~9, and brains 43 ~ud 44 operating <br />between Port.s?th, Virginia ~d WiLmi~gton~ No~h C~olina. <br />~S, the Czty of Portsmouth throu~ its City Council, <br />lieves that the remo~l of these trains, which have served tb~s <br />City and the cities ~d co~m~ities between Portsmouth, Roc~ <br />~o'~t mud ~ilmington, North Carolina, for half a~ntu~, will <br />seriously interfere, h mudicap and inconvenience the <br />travel the shipments of ~xpress, fish~ oysters ~d seafood~ <br />~ iT R~0Li~D by the Czzy ~o~uczl cz Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />t~t w~ go on re~ord as beLug opposed ~o the change or elimina- <br />tion of the present sche~les of trai~s ~d t~t we petition <br />your honorable bcd/ ~o ~sal~ow the petition ~ud further that <br />a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the State Co.oration <br />Co.lesion o f Virgi~a and to t he Utilities Co:~ission o f No~h <br />Carolina. ~ <br /> <br /> ~ir.
