<br /> ~orfolk County Ferries.
<br /> 2. That an annual report of the sinking Funds of the City of
<br /> Portsmouth be published.

<br />Commission for a permit to construct the various parts of the tur~el project within the City
<br />of Portsmouth, a~d recommend that it be referred to the zenana Commmss_on.

<br />was adopted.
<br /> 2nd "I have been requested by the Chair~m~n of the Portsmouth Schoo.~
<br /> Board to arrange for a joint meeting of the City Co~uucil and the School Board for a conference
<br /> on She proposed High School site and the dates April l~th or 17th have been so~gested."
<br /> ~otion~ of ~r. Howard that the Council meet with the School Board on
<br />April 17th, at 7:J) P.}~o, was adopted.

<br /> Ord - "I submit herewith a letter from Aubrey P. J ob_neon,Jr., City
<br /> Clerk and Auditorr- requesting that ~iss Caroline Gert be named Deputy City Clerk, with autho-
<br /> rity to act as City Clerkin the absence of the City Clerk and also that Eiss Ellen Ballentin~
<br /> be appointed Deput~y City Auditor~ with authority to sign checks and other financial papers in
<br /> the absence of the~ regular City O!erk and Audmtor.
<br /> I heartily conc~ in [~r. Job~uson s request and recommend that
<br /> the Council make t~e appointments,"

<br /> L~otion of ~. Warren to concur in the ~anager~s recommendation was
<br /> adopted.

<br /> 4th - ~'At the last regular meeting of the City Council,' ~he request
<br /> of the Churchland Post of the A~erice~n LSgion for a refund of a part of the amount paid to the
<br /> City in taxes, rent, etc., in connection with boxing events at the City Armory, was referred
<br /> to me for a report,
<br /> I do not recormnend tb~t any refunds or adjustments be made to
<br /> any individual, group or organization for the charges for taxes, rents, etc., at the City Ar-
<br /> mory. The City has a considerable amount of money invested in the building and it is expensive
<br /> to maintain and operate and the amount received for the use of the building is hem sufficient
<br /> vo take care of the cosy to the City to provide for this service."

<br />Manager was adopted.

<br /> 5th - "I submit a request from Mt.Keen, who ov~s lots ~4 and #5 at
<br />the intersection of Airline Boulevard and Grove Avenue, adjoining the property of the Grove
<br />Pa~k Fire Station, ~o ourchase all or half of lot ~ adjoining his lot and also a portion of
<br />the triangular parcel of land owned by the City and adjoining lots #l, 2 and 3 on which
<br />Grove Avenue Fire Station is located.
<br /> I do not reco~m~end the sale of the property, as in my opinion
<br />it would materially affect the propersy ov~ed by the City on which the Fire Station is located
<br />however, I would recor~end that the City purchase the lots from ~L~. ~eon if they could be se-
<br />cured ava reasonable price.~
<br />
<br /> ~otion of ~. Duke to concur in t he reco~muendation of the City ~anage~
<br />and that the City ~anager be instructed to consider the advisability of purchasir~ the above-
<br />mentioned property.
<br />
<br /> 6th - "At the last regular meeting of the City Go~.ncil, the question
<br />of the request of A. T. Porter, ~nc has been ~eparated fr.om the Police Department, f or the re-
<br />turn to him of the amount of retirement fund due him by the City.
<br /> Upon investigation I have ascertained that the actual amount
<br />due him is $11~.B~ and recommend that this amomat be paid to Mr. Porter."
<br /> Motion of Mr. ~¥arren to appropriate ~ll~o~ to refund Mr. Porter, was
<br />adopted, and by the following vote:
