Onmotion filed. ~ne followin~ letter from the West Pgrk View Garden Club was read: "Mr. Irving Smith Co~aucilman for~rshall Ward. Dear Mr. Smith: As you are the comucilman representing the ward that the War~emorial Building is being erected, I am writing this letter to y6u. No doubt you have seen from the press that the West Park View G~rden Club is trying so hard to complete the building by Spring, and are now having a "Parade of Pen - nies~ and we as the Co~ttee Chairmen a~e asking Council to appropriate a contribution to the Building Fund - Portsmouth has never in any way shown their appreciation of the boys and girls who fought for us in World War #2. Some gave their lives. So the West Park View Garden Club had four lots given them~o erect a memorial so the boys and girls bhat ha~e come back - ~ome gone again - could have a place ~to go and relax and feel it is their abode. The Misses Hill of Sea Breeze Farms are giving the ~lO,000. Memorial Library in memory of their brother. The Auditorium~ll seat 480 people and the Library for clubs to meet and do research work. There is nowhere in Portsmouth for Garde~ Olubs to meet. Some meet at Y.M.C.A. and Elks Club. In this auditorium there will be meeting place for ar~ organization, and teen-age girls and goys can have a place to meet. We thought members of the Council might see their way clear to make a contribution to this worthy cause. The citizens of Portsmouth have not ~allied to the Memorial Fund and it is hoped~theymay do so iu this drive~ "Pennies on °Sincerely, Mrs. John W.
