Nay 15th, 1951 <br /> <br />At a called meetimg of the City Council, held on Nay 15th, 1951, there were present: <br /> <br />Fred A. Duke, Frank N. Bilisoly, Jr., George L. Grimes, Carl C. Houghton,Jr., <br />James N. Howard, R. Irvine Smith, E. Robie Sturtevant, C. E. ]garren, H.Earl <br />Weisema~n, Pearle~. Wilson, I. G. Vass, City Manager, and R. C. Barclay, City <br />Attorney. <br /> <br />The following call for the meeting ~as read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a called meeting of the City Council in the Council Chamber at 5:00 <br />P.M., on Tuesday, Nay 15th, 1951, to consider the budget." <br /> <br />The City Manager presented the following letter: <br /> <br /> "I am attaching an ordinance of Budget Appropriations for the year July 1st, i951 to <br />June 3Oth, 1952, and recomend that this ordina~ce be placed on its first reading." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Warren to place the following ordinance on its first reading was <br /> <br />adopted: <br /> <br />~esented, was~opted. <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE OF BUDGET RECEIPTS AND EXPENSES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR <br /> BEGINNING JULY 1st, 1951." <br /> <br />Notion ~of Mr. Howard that the City Council consider any other matters that may.~be <br /> <br />The following letter from the City Manager was read: <br /> <br /> "I am submitting a plat of the proper~y line map VA-i~ of the Portsmouth Redevelop- <br />ment and Housing Authority indicating thereon the right of way of the Atlantic and Danville Railway extending <br />from the Airline TUrnpike bo the 3eaboard Airline right of way. <br /> I recommend that if the Atlantic C~st Line Railroad Company sells to the City of <br />Portsmouth the right of way, that the city tuam over to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority this <br />p~rtion of the right of way for their project at the same cost that the City will incur in purchasing it fr~m <br />the Railroad Company and that the deed for the property be made to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing au - <br />thority frsm the Railway Company." <br /> <br /> Notion of Nr. Houghton that the City Manager be authorized to request the Atlantic <br />Coast Line Ra~lrcad ~ompany to convey theoPrOperty directly to the Housing Authority at the sam~ c~st the City wi1' <br />incur in purchasing it from the Railroad ompany, was adopted, amd by the f~llowimg vote: <br /> <br />Aye~: <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Duke, Bilisoly, Grimes, Houghton, Howard, Smith, Sturtevant, <br /> Warren,Weiseman, Wilson <br />None <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br /> President <br /> <br /> <br />
