Why should it not be so named when three-quarters of the total c est will be paid for by the citizens <br /> of the two cities? <br /> Nc~' the various civic clue~, the Cham3oers of Commerce, other organizations ~ud individn- <br />· als of these cities in order to advertise their respective cities have contributed ~ach of their time, service <br /> end substance. The association of Norfolk and Portsmouth in name would go far in eventual consolidation of the <br /> two cities. <br /> Messrs. Breeden and Etheridge, ignoring the great value of the tur~uel-bridgs as an ad- <br /> vertisement of thes~e conmm~nit.ies~ have seen fit to introduce a bill to name the tur~uel bridge after an individu~ <br /> As the 'governLug body in your city, should you sit idly by ~nd permit to be lost to <br /> city this great opportunity which, '~thout one penny of cost and for a period of one hundred years or more,-~_ll <br /> serve to advertise your color, unity ~o your state~ to your n~ighoormng states and to the nation? Should you think <br /> an apt, proper, beneficial and descriptive name rightly belongs to your tu_mue4 and thereby your city's pros- <br /> perity will iucrease and through it your own~ then you should express interes~ ~ud show action. At this.time, <br /> Senator ~il~_ara, because of a ~evere loss and personal illness is at his home and is nnable to attend the Legis- <br /> lature. ~aerefore, i have contacted by telegram the representatives of o-~zo±~ County and Portsmouth and request~ <br /> that they obtai~U ~ public hearing on this bill. Whether they can obtain this, i do not know. ?nis is no more my <br /> responsibility than it is yotu~s. Iris doubtful that I alone car~ obtain a hearing. As this goes. beyond thee realms <br /> of organizations, I am asking every individidual and business to accept this as a personal challenge to his inter <br /> est in his city, and with the organizations bo contact all of your rspresentatives personally by letter, phone or <br /> telegram requesting such ~ hear~ngo <br /> However, should you feel that the tunnel-bridge is neither of ~-nterest, value, concern <br /> nor consequence to you or your City, then i would suggest in fairness to Messrs.
