i21 <br /> <br />May 25th, 1954. <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on May 25th, 1954, there wore present: <br /> <br />Fred A Duke, Frank N. Bilisoly,Jr., George L. Grimes_ R. E. Hawks, C.C.Houghton,Jr., <br />J. N. Howard, E. W. Lawrence, R. Irvine Smith, C.E. Warren, Pearle J. WilSon, <br />I. G. Vass, City Manager, and R. C. Barclay, City Attorney. <br /> <br />and approved. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting of May llth and called meeting of May 18th, 1954, were read <br /> <br />The following 'notice of Zoning Changes was read: <br /> <br />54-141. <br /> <br />"Pursuant to provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, notice is hereby given that a <br />public bearing will be held at 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, Nay 25th, 1954, in the <br />Council Chamber, Municipal Building, Portsmeuth, Virginia, for the purpose of <br />altering zones and reclassifying the following property: <br /> 1. P. H. Boyette,Jr., to rezone lots 2-3-4-5-6 and 7 in block "D-D" and <br />lots 2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16-18 and 20 in block #157 beginning at the southeast <br />corner of Vermont Avenue and County Street then South 217 feet along the east <br />side of Vermont Avenue, then east 300 feet along the north side of Columbia <br />Street then north 108.5 feet along the west side of Hamilton Avenue, then <br />west 120 feet then 108.5 feet then west 1SO feet on the south side of County <br />Street to pSint efb~ginning from Two Family Class 'C' t'o Commercial Class 3G' <br />be approved. <br /> 2. "The question of the permit issued to Mr, and Mrs. Darden, t10 Greenway D~ive and re- <br />ferred back to the City Manager and City Engineer for further study, Please be advised that I submit the attached <br />information from Mr. and Mrs. Darden concerning the matter." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Smith ~o suspend the rules To hear from Mrs. Marian Nartin,was adopted. <br /> <br />way Drive. <br /> <br />Mrs. Martin spoke in reference ~o the building permit issued ~o Mr. Darden at 110 Green- <br /> <br /> 54-144. "I submit the attached budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 1954 and ending <br />June 3$th, 1955, for the operation of the City Government of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, for General Im - <br />provement Budge~. <br /> Motion of ~lr. Houghton to suspend the rules to hear from J.M. Tusing and Frank Mantz <br />of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. TuSing and Mr. Mantz spoke for the City appropriating $20,000.00 in the new budget <br />for the Chamber of Commerce for advertising purposes. <br /> <br /> <br />
