<br /> 2. Decrease in gross receipts Tax.
<br /> 3. Further curtailment of bus service.

<br /> 54-269 - ~otion of Mr. Howard to suMpend the rules to hear from Mr. Womack of the Portsmouth
<br />Transit Company, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Womach spoke requesting a change in the token far. e to five for seventy cents smd a decreas~
<br />in gross receipt tax of one per 6ent effective January 1st, 1955, and afUrther curtailment in bus service.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to refer to a conference of the Council with the Portsmouth Transit Com -
<br />pony officials, on Wednesday, October.13th, at 4~:00 P.M., was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Warren ~xcused.
<br />
<br /> 54-266 - Motion of Mr. Howard to remove from the table the request of the Portsmouth School
<br />Board for a site for a new Junior High School, was adopted.
<br />
<br />The following letter from the Superintendent of Schools was read:
<br />
<br /> "The Portsmouth City'School Board has directed me to request your body to approve the purchase
<br />of the following property for the site of a new Jnnior High School:
<br /> Beginning at the point where the southeast hom~dary of the Jeffrey Wilson Home project joins
<br />the right-a-way o£ the Se~ Eailroad, and~llowing the p~operty line of the Jeffrey Wilson Project in a north-
<br />erly direction to the Airline Turnpike, and then easterly ~o the church line just east of WilliamsStreet, then
<br />100' in a southerly direction and then easterly parallel to the Airline Tmrnpike to Lewis Street, then southerly
<br />to Colsmbia , then easterly along ColumbiaStreet tea point 110' west of Lee Heights, then southerly parallel to
<br />Lee Heights and then westerly along the Seaboard Railroad right-a-way-to the point of begimuing.
<br /> We trust that you will take this matter up a~ the earliest p.ossible time, as it is very .urgent
<br />that we be in a position to meet the conditions of the United S ares Office of Education in order to receive Fed-
<br />eral funds on this building.~
<br />
<br /> ~otion of Mr. Hawks to approve the site fo~ the new ~unior high school and the City to provide
<br />the necessary fu~ds to complete the construction,, was adopted, and by the following ~o~e:
