Ha?cl~y, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> Minutes of reg~lar~eting held on May 10th. 1955 were read and approved. <br /> <br /> The following reports from~ ~ City Manager.were ~ead; <br /> <br /> 55-132 "I submit the attached amendment to the City Code concerning taxicabs and, on be- <br />half of the Transportmtion Committee, I recommend that it be placed on its first reading. I aisc submit the at- <br />tached recommendation from w. T. Brown, Taxi Inspector, and I concur in his recommendation." <br /> <br /> Attached - "Chief L. C. warren and I recommend one more stand, a four car space on the west <br /> side of WashinEton St. (500 block) South of H/Eh St. <br /> This stand is agreeable to the cab owners and also the following merchants: <br /> Johnson Optical Co., Normandie Restaurant ~nd the Colonial Shoppe on the <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Howard to approve the location of taxi stands and that the following ordinance <br />be placed on first reading, wss adopted: <br /> <br />" AN ORDINANCE TO A~flEND AKD RE-ORDAIN SECTION 27-5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTS~/OUTH 1951, RELATING TO PARKING TAX" <br /> <br /> 5~-i33 - 'CAt a former meeting of the CaunciI, I reported on the.improvements requested by <br />the Hon. Porter Hardy~ Jr., who Xs sub-dividing a parcel of land adjacent to Merri~ac Point. At ~J/a~ ~ime the <br />estimated cost of the Water line was $15,000.00. I have hee~ informed by the Superintendent of the Water Depart- <br />ment that approximately 50% of the w~rk can be done at this time and that this amount of water main will be snf - <br />ficient to take care of all hnildin~s that are now under construction. <br /> I recommend that the City Superint~dent of the Water Department ~e authorized to <br />proceed with installing the water mains. There is sufficient balance in the Water Department for new construction <br />to defray the cost of the project and does no~ require an additional appropriation." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Grimes ~o concur in the recommendation of the City ~ansger was adopted. <br /> <br /> 55-134 - 'I am attaching repor~ from Dr. L.H. D~any, Chairman of the Police and Fire Retire~ <br />ment Boa~d, reeo~ending that Jack' M. Parker ~ud T.J. Fotlary, of the Police Department, be r~tired. I concur in <br />the recommendation of the Hoard that these two gentlemen be retired, a~ half their present salaries, effective <br />June 1st, 1955." <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br />~otion of Mr.Bilisoly to defer for further study the retirement of T.J. Follary, was adopted. <br />Motion of ~. ~mith that JaCk M. Parker be retired at half pay~ effective June-lst,1955, was <br /> <br /> 55-135 - "I submit ~3ae Attached letter from L. E. Turlington, Commissioner of Revenue and <br />recommend that an appropriation in the s~ of $1,200.00 be placed on its first reading, representing the City's <br />shoe ofefUnds" necessary to supplement the current budget, in order to pro~rly assess t~b~ property for the <br /> <br />lng, was adopted. ~o~ion of ~.
