Barclay,City Attorney. <br /> <br /> The following call for th~meeting was read: <br /> <br />"Yea are requested to attend a called meeting of the Council at 15:30 P.M., on <br />Tuesday, October llth, 1955, in the Couneii ChamJoer, to consider disposition of the Norfolk County <br /> Ferries property. By order of the <br /> <br /> ~otion of~ir. Howard'that the City ~anager present a letter to the Norfolk County <br />Board of Supervisors to ascertain iffthe Supervisors will be agreeable to ~Viding the- real estate of tl~e <br />N°rf°lkCoUntY Ferries by the City of Portsmouth t~uking the property on t]~e Portsmouth Side of the river amd <br />Norfolk County taking the properIy en the Norfolk side of the river,"and if this settlement can not be cons~ - <br />mated, the Council o~the City of Porzsmouth believes immediate Steps should he taken to dispose of the entire <br /> <br />real estate holdings of the Ferries, w~s adopted. <br /> On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />President. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />October llth, 1955. <br /> <br />At a regalar meeting of the City Council, held on October llth, 1985, there were <br /> <br /> Fred A Duke, B. Vass~ City Manager, and R.C.Barclay, City Attorney. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting held on September 27th, 1955 were read and approved. <br />'The following reports from the City Manager were read~ <br /> <br /> 55-R48 - "I submit the a~tached re~olution and re6ommemd that it be adopted." <br /> <br /> "Be it Eesolved tha~ the City Collector~is hereby authorized to deposit <br />~funds of the City of Portsmouth in the following banks: <br /> <br /> American National Bank of Portsmouth <br /> Bank of Virginia <br /> Citizens Trust Company _ <br /> Nerchants & Farmers Bank of PortSmouth <br /> Farmers B~m_k of Nansem0nd <br /> National Bask of S~-ffolk, Virginia." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Howard, said resolution was adopted. <br /> <br /> 55-24§ -- "At a previous meeting of the Council at the request of the Planning Com - <br />mission, the Council referred tome the question of holding a conference with offici~Is of the Fifth Naval Dis - <br />trict concer~ling the proPOsed tunnel approach to the PrOposed tunnel by way of the Naval Hospital. <br /> <br /> Two lengthy conferences Were held at Wllic~ tim~ Admiral Morrison and <br />Lieut. Gates from the Naval Hospital and Captain Fay, Public Works Officer from the Fifth Naval District attended <br /> <br /> There were present from the City, Paul ~Lla~ey, Director of City Planning~ <br />F.J. Bergeron, Director of Public Works, R. I~vine Smith, City Councilman, Mayor Fred A ~ke, and the City <br /> After the discussions, it was determined lhat it would no~ be feasible <br />or desirable on the part of ~the hospital to dispose of that portion of land necessary for a right of way and to <br />acquire a sufficient right od way fl~y the purchase ~of p~oPeTty alonE a substitute ro~te would be almost prohibi- <br />tive in cost frc~ the standpoint of the City.
