<br />At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on April 10th, 1956, there were present:

<br />Minutes ~f previous meeiingwere read and approved.

<br />The fellowing reports from the City Manager were read:

<br /> 56-111 - ~tI snbmit~a proposed form of contract for work to be accomplished on the
<br />Douglas Park War Housing Project and a proposed form of dedication deed and recommend that the forms he approved
<br />in order That the project can he completed."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard that the draft,as presented, be approved and forwarded to Washing~
<br />Ton, for the final papers, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 56-112 - "I recommend that the firm of Frederick B. Hill & Company, Certified Public
<br />Acconntants, be employed to audit the records of the City of Portsmouth fer the fiscal year ending June 30,1956
<br />aT_tke~same fee that we paid them for the previous fiscal year."

<br />Motion ef Mr. Grimes to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager was adopted.

<br /> 56-113 - 'tAt a previous meeting of the Council, you referred to me the question of a
<br />request for an amendmen~ to the City Code To regulate Snnday funerals. I have made a comprehensive study of what
<br />other cit~ throughout the ceunTry have done concerning the matter and have found that only a very small percents.

<br />to city -owned and operated cemeteries and all ordinances o~ which I have receiv.ed reports provide for emergency ~

<br />~egalations the City might undertake in the fo~m of an amendment ~o the City Code Would not materially remedy the
<br />condition mentioned in the request.
<br /> I therefore do no~ recommend that the ~Code be amended at this time.'~

<br />Juvenile and Domestic Relatio~%s Court for the fiscal year ending June 30~ 1955."

<br />paymentm for the months of November, 1955 to March, 1956, inclusive, and recommend that they he notified to cease
<br />operations unless the amount is paid immediately."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Howard that theCommunity Motor Bus Company be notified ~mmediaiely that
<br />they will not he permitted ~o operate as a transportation company zn the City of Portsmouth after April 23rd, 1956~,
<br />if the money due'the City for use of its streets is not paid 1)y that date, was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 56-117 -- ?I am reporting that the Beazley Foundation has completed the work i~ accord-
<br />ance with the agreement at Carver Homes, including the Boys'S~hool ~id Recreation Building for the ~ Recrea-
<br />tion Prejeet and have purchased that portion of the acreage and lots agreed
<br /> Mr. Beaziey is most anxious that .the City 'keep its agreement by purchasing
<br />all of the remaining property within the project that had been leased by th~ ~ederaI .Government. ~ estimated
<br />cost is $25,000.00. I therefore recommend that the sum of ~25,000.00 he placed on f~sT reading."

<br /> Notion ef Mr. Grimes to place an appropriation .of $25,000.00 for said purpose on first
<br />reading, was adopted.
